Cutting Off & How Much You Bring Back

Wow, where do i start other than i have felt down since the weekend knowing what walk i'm on this week, i really cant cope with the workload at all within my hours.

Basically im a 30 hour contract 7-1 with a 30 min break, so a half 12 finish, now i dunno how other offices are in terms of walk equality, but from my experience of being a reserve and doing 11 different walks, it just seems if u cut the office in half one side is just easier than the other mail volume wise and also length of walk.

Now ive been put on a walk with over 700 calls this week and also needs the use of a trolley even though i still needed a pouch n 2 bags dropped off as it all wouldn't still fit in the trolley, so basically today i took out over double than what i did all week on a different walk, anyway im struggling to cope and i have someone helping me throw it off before i get into work in the hope i will get out early, but it doesn't happen, it just means i get out at a average time of a full timer on that walk or a walk similar, rather than later and also the fact that the round is completely and utterly new to me, so im bound to be slow prepping anyway.

So ive said im working to my time everyday this week and today in particular with me having what would be 8 full pouches and just over 2 hours to work with by the time i got out there, i ended up bringing half of it back, now i dunno how they judge you based on performance, because when i got back the lino wasn't there and i had to see the DOM and was basically told that there taking me off the walk, that im getting help on the prep side that others aint getting and that i have to have word tomorrow about it.

I just dunno what to think, can you be sacked based on performance & how much you bring back ? i feel like i'm half killing myself just tryna cut into the walk as its absolutely huge compared to any other ive done, even well experienced posties have told me that its a monster etc and that ima need to keep booking on it if i wanna complete, i just feel again like i'm in a situation of confrontation, when i clearly know i have the ability to do the job and i'm honest, its just simply to much for me to cope with in my hours, really dunno what to do.

Retro junkie i know what you mean mate, i have the same issues with the walk im on - its just unachievable to do the walk in the allocated time your given..... management don't seem to think its an everyday issue though.

A typical comment today off a manager was - " it isn't that you can't do it, you just don't want to do it " when i informed them of my intentions of working to my contracted hours (again). To complete the walk i need the ips to be finished at 7.45 at the latest to have the slightest chance of completing, these days the ips is getting finished around 8.30 ish due to dwindling numbers, thats not my problem though that theres a lack of people on the ips.

If your doing a reasonable and honest days work to your contracted hours i don't think management can do anything about it, although they will try and get you to complete as it's less hassle for them to find someone else to do it.

Well you could ask him to speak to the dom on your behalf. That way when you cut off the dom cannot say he was not informed and issue a wilful delay, simples.

One of our linos started spouting BS this week about the DOM going ballistic and threatening to sack people due to the amount of bags that are being left in the office before we go out as a result of predicted cut offs. They've been testing us for the past few weeks - not just the minute long prep test, but timing us over our entire indoor span and calculating our average prep rate so they can bash us over the head with it. Further than that, though, I don't think there is much they can do.

If you can't complete the walk in the time you have then DO NOT take it all out of the door, leave the parts you won't complete in the frame and tell your manager before you go out. It's his problem then, not yours. You can get done for willful delay if the manager wants to push it, you will probably just get a warning to not do it again.

You are not alone it's happening in my office and they are refusing to pay overtime and threatening willfull delay if you bring it back. just a shower of B@STARDS.

that's all the line manager did was look at his watch saw that i had just over 2 hours, and said come back at your finish time.

but when i got back he wasn't in his office, and got attitude from the DOM throwing her weight around, called me in, had a go at me cause id only done half, said she was going to move me off the walk and just shook her head and walked off when i said i couldn't cope with the workload and time i had.

Also how are u suppose to know what to leave anyway if its the first heavy day on a walk you have never done before in your life, but u can clearly see the workload is ridiculous and will take u over ur time? surely you don't wanna just guess and possibly take out to little ?

It's not wilful delay if you run out of time.
Managers talk s**t...try not to listen so much.
It's not even unexcused delay.
It's a failure to resource...a management failure.

1.Speak to your rep and explain how this is making you feel.
2.Make sure you have a witness present during all conversations with management especially when they tell you to bring stuff back.
3.Keep a diary of anything you believe is inappropriate which to be honest is all of it.
4.Speak to your manager and explain how this is making you feel.
5.If it doesn't stop start the grievance procedure.
6.Try not to worry so much,not easy i know but you have done nothing wrong.

brassed off with it all. cutting off and bringing back( full walk came back today) managers still saying can't understand why the mail is coming back! loads of mail being brought back to our office everyday. Making me feel ill to which i take home then arguments start with the wife, managment don't care.

I appreciate a lot of people are getting stressed with this shite,and it's hard to get through to some people that are stressed but peeps,step back,don't ruin yourself or people around you because of it.

thanks for advice, but managers treat us like sh..t. suppose when i go in at 6.45am they'll make me take the mail we brought back today, then come back and do the days mail we have tomoz. surely this ain't rite. oh and if they take it out on o.t or get the blueeyed boys to take it, you won't see them using trollys and managment will turn a blind eye to that. feel like throwing a few punches(no i can't)
