As we approach the third anniversary of when photo IDs became compulsory for all employees, around a third of those cards are due for renewal.

‘We staggered expiry dates to avoid a big hit in the fifth year,’ says Julian Hurley, head of physical security.

‘It’s time for everyone to check their cards and act now – or apply for a card if they haven’t got one.’

All the information you need is available from your line manager.

‘All our people must display photo ID on any Royal Mail premises,’ says Julian.

‘Even on the street delivering mail, you must be able to show it. More and more customers are asking for ID and we need to be able to prove who we are

I joined RM over a year ago and still have not got an ID Card........

This has always confused me. A big red bag full of letters and packets, with Royal Mail printed on the side of it. A red jacket with Royal Mail printed on it, an orange hi-vis vest also with Royal Mail printed on it and a baseball cap with Royal Mail printed on it.

Staff on collections, yes, wearing ID in the office, yes, but delivery posties on the street, why?

"Hello, who is it?"
"Postman, I've got a parcel for you"
"I can't let you in unless you show me your ID"
"I don't want to come in, I want to give you your mail"
"Have you got any ID?"
"Yes"
"OK, I'll open the door"
Opens door
"Here's your mail" turns to leave
"I can't take this, you haven't shown me your ID"

I think mine runs out in 2014 Its starting to get a bit faded though.

I joined RM over a year ago and still have not got an ID Card........

I joined two and a half years ago............after asking several times,had a photo taken about 2 years ago........then the camera went missing...........then had photo taken again about 18 months ago.............still waiting...............

I finally got mine in May this year after joining in March 2008

Mine runs out in 2013. Talking of expiry dates, a lot of us only realised this morning we had been driving around with expired tax discs. Only a month out of date tbh thats about the only thing I never check.

True, not that most people actually care but there always some numptys

our id badges open our front door in the office half ov them expired couldnt get in with the barcode,dont think it is for us to check the date should automatic renew them when its time cheeks ba@@@@ .

I thought Northern Ireland retained the old numbered badges just for this reason ?

Nope, we got all the new photo IDs a few years ago.
