Correct procedure for rural 1pm specials.

What is the correct procedure with regards to 1pm specials on rural duties, where often you have to cut off from your delivery in the middle of nowhere, to ensure delivery for 1pm?. More often than not, this then leads to going over your time.

Instruct management you will be cutting off for the special before delivery, making you late

If you dont want to cut off, hand the special back claiming you won't make it.

Or scan it as not delivered before 1pm, then deliver whenever the hell you please

dont take the specials out that are on the part of your walk you deliver after 1pm...... simple!!!!!

if you have a van just deliver before one and cut off simples

Whats to stop me scanning a special at 12:00 as being not delivered, then again at 3:00 when I actually get to the godforsaken hillbilly shack miles from civilisation?

well how about the customer waiting on their item?

Your pda is also a sat nav ,so if u put it down as a non delivery it can locate where u done that ,be carefull doing that .Just break off and put it as overtime .

Specials are priority,do them then if you have to cut off you cut off.
If it's a regular thing then the drive needs to be looked at and reviewed to maintain QOS.

I honestly wouldn't know how to get to some of the places without going to the one before, if that makes sense.

Remember when we were starting at 05:00 and the specials were 12:00, then we changed to 13:00 specials and then they moved our start times to 06:00?.

We had a WTL and we were told that to save fuel ,and so they knew where we were we were, not to go off route, one month later we were told that specials are priority and we have to off route to make sure they do not fail.
Our DOM, at the time, suggested that if the special was at the end of the round we were to do the round backwards, I had to point out that that was not going to work if there was specials for the beginning of the round as well.

If we went back to 05:00 starts there would be enough time in the day to clear the specials and more people may be willing to do overtime,Christ, we used to have time to do a bit of OT between our rounds and SAs but now sometimes we are finishing the rounds just in time to start the SAs.

It all used to work so well and now is an utter shambles.

"I had to point out that that was not going to work if there was specials for the beginning of the round as well." - yes, and on a busy day for specials, Tuesday, they're usually spread out quite evenly throughout the round.

Last week 2 days running i had an 18 mile round trip with 9,o,clock specials,was told to stop my prep and just get on with it.How royal mail made any money out of these specials il never no,what with the cost of diesel and my docket for going over The ironic thing is on the thursday i had to 739 the item and they asked for a redelivery on saturday morning shows how urgent that one was.
