Agreement has been reached with Unite to increase pay for most middle and junior managers by 1.6% from 1 July 2011.
Peter Walls, industrial and employee relations director, explains: 'For those middle and junior managers in broadbanded grades, the 1.6% will be allocated to a pay pot for distribution in the normal way.
'The increase will also apply to allowances and overtime rates where applicable. It will attract employer and employee contributions for those managers in a Royal Mail pension scheme.
'Pay talks are continuing separately for managers in POL and Parcelforce Worldwide.
'It's been very difficult to reach a settlement this year because of the extremely tight cost constraints on the business at the moment.
'But we recognise the role managers play in leading the business to tackle the challenges we face. We have reached the best deal we possibly could.
'Unite will now ballot its members and, subject to a positive outcome, the increased pay, together with back pay, will be in November salaries.
'Senior managers also have a pay review date of 1 July and we are still dealing with this. Details will be communicated in due course.'

Re: Pay award for managers
well for some there is the difficult decision whether to use the shi**y end or not, and even then they have to check with their own manager, to make sure they made the right decision.Judgee wrote:"'But we recognise the role managers play in leading the business to tackle the challenges we face"

However, to be fair there is a lot of skill in being a Royal Mail manager. After all you cant just get anyone to

Demotivate staff.

If you really recognised the role management have played in leading the business to the position it's now in...namely deep in the s**t...wouldn't you be printing P45's instead of worrying about pay rises? But we recognise the role managers play in leading the business to tackle the challenges we face
Reward for failure.

Re: Pay award for managers
I wouldn't mind them rewarding failure if they were more consistent with it...
Moya Greene at RM for 9 months and in that time losses increase and chaos spreads throughout the land, result = £130,000 bonus!
I cut off every day, result = no fecking bonus at all!
Hardly seems fair does it!
