20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
please gents ,stay with me on this
at our office we still have a staffed canteen doing breakfast. we have allways had a 40 minute break prior to going out on delivery. royal mail cant change those times as they are custom and practice, and as such are a perscribed term in your contract of employment, except by a local agreement.
we have the planners in at the moment and are adament a 20/20 break will be a base for the planning. that is for future argument but the relevant point is this
if the staff have a 40 minute break before they go out as to the contract of employment
how can they last 4 and a half hours on the delivery span without a leak. the planners can work this but state it will be for example 30 minute break in the morning and a 10 minute break during the delivery span to make up the 40 minutes.
my argument will be they have there 40 minute break and an extra say 10 minutes will have to be included in the delivery span as the employeer has a duty under the health and safety at work act to provide welfare facilities as well as included in the bt2010 agreement
comments please people

Toilet facilities 'should' be identified during a revision.
And why are you looking at 4-30hr deliveries?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

the delivery time is not relevant, i used it as an example,
the point that i am making is that if you have your full 40 minute break allowance before you go out on delivery, the employer still has to allow welfare
for example in a factory, you go for a pee during your shift, you would not expect say 5 minutes to be deducted from your lunch break as our breaks are paid breaks

I agree with you.
40 minute break and a welfare break out on delivery.
Is you planner really Adam Ant?

Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
i am glad we are in agreement
the planners have stated that they are not allowed/unable to include welfare if the full 40 minute break is taken prior to the delivery span
in my posistion as legal and medical, i have to act quick as i am taking the bull by the horns on this as we have planners in our office
who at the end of the day is in charge of the planners, top man/department/head honcho
i will be debating this issue on a legal footnote

kudos to you
rem you can actually return to office for toilet requirements law states you must have wash facilities. not a dump in field or leak by the hedge those days are gone we will all end up as sex offenders get right into them.
as for the breaks just ask for same as mgmt

Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
again i agree
you are reading my mind but
i need to sting them on a legal argument as they are trying to say 30 minutes break before you go out on delivery then 10 minute break on delivery for your natural bodily functions
but i want a resource break as well as the 40 minutes break prior to delivery span

Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
even if you took your full 40 minute break before going out on delivery, they can,t stop anyone taking a physical needs break when they are out. its easy for them to say ''you should,ve went before you went out'' but if your body is telling you 2hrs later that you need to pee/poo, then there is not a company or business in the land that can deny you this. media circus would ensue if they tried to pull that stunt.keithposty wrote:i am glad we are in agreement

The legal guidance..(it's not law in itself)states that you must have access to toilet facilities.
Access to public toilet facilities are considered adequate.
Keith...welfare should not be part of your break...it should be built into the outdoor element of your revision.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
i have nailed the wahroom argument as it falls under the
health,safety and welfare rgulations 1992
‘Welfare facilities’ are those that are necessary for the well-being of your
employees, such as washing, toilet, rest and changing facilities, and somewhere
clean to eat and drink during breaks.
an employer ‘so far as is reasonably
practicable’, provide adequate and appropriate welfare facilities for them while they
are at work. This means you must provide such facilities unless it is clearly
unreasonable in terms of time, trouble, cost and physical difficulty
so that argument is nailed
i now need to convince them that this resource break is additional top the 40 minute break and not part of the 40 minute

i agree but its like banging your head against a brick wall
all i get is there is no provision to include extra time elemant
eg
40 minute break plus 10 minute welfare , total- 50 minutes
quote
Access to public toilet facilities are considered adequate.
so build it into the delivery span extra to the 40 minute standard break before delivery

Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
Use of public toilets and washing facilities should be a last resort and not
used just because they are the cheaper option. This would not be acceptable
where the provision of better facilities would be reasonably practicable
