Anyone with duty option 7?
Our office is considering duty option 7 - every other Saturday off. Has any other office gone for this? If so how has it worked out for you? How has it affected your part timers?

Re: Anyone with duty option 7?
That is one of the options listed in my office. How will it affect the part timers? Well think about it. The Saturday shifts will be covered by part timers and some full timers on S/A, so not only will they have to work every weekend, they'll get paid less than the full timers for doing it. Could this get voted in? Way Forward, 2007, BT2010, of course it will. Winners and losers eh, one day the part timers will be the winners.

Re: Anyone with duty option 7?
Is that the way your office did it? If so perhaps you need to look for a new rep, one that represents the whole of the office and not just the full timers. In our office we expect our part timers to enjoy the same benefits of the 2010 agreement as the full timers, that includes an attendance pattern with a minimum of 1 in 4 Saturdays.
I dont agree that the only way to bring this in would be at the detrement of part timers. What it could mean is, that hours that would normally be ripped out as savings would have to be re-invested as new 16 hour part time contracts.
The reason for my initial request for information was, that I wondered if other offices had gone for that otption and if so had they encountered any difficulties? Did you for instance have one attendance pattern for P/T and one for F/T that enable both groups to share Saturdays off?

Re: Anyone with duty option 7?
No, it is one of the options. We are currently undergoing our revision, but the only options that see equal treatment of P/T are the week off in six, or the current system of a rotating day off. As for the rep, he's not happy about any of the options.

Do not agree to the changes unless they meet all your aspirations. No doubt your DUM will want to maximise his savings, but he needs to be told to get stuffed. The agreement was about working more efficiently not how much he can save. As long as your duty options cost in (ie. do not mean additional cost to the office) then he should not have a problem with what you want, if he does go to disagreement.pinstripe wrote:No, it is one of the options. It pisses me off to see part timers treated like second class members, no agreement will be reached in our office unless our part timers or AG's recieve the same benefits as the full timers. Remember the minimum in this agreement was 1 in 4 Saturdays off, and that should mean everyone benefits.

Yes, I agree with both posts, but you know what our 'comrades' are like. Show them a carrot and they'll bite your hand off and stuff the consequences. Then it'll be the reps fault for not protecting them from themselves.AnotherLimey wrote:Well said and i will fight tooth and nail to see the same in my office, i want a good attendance pattern but i don't want to see part timers fooked over to get it!Fluke wrote:Do not agree to the changes unless they meet all your aspirations. Surely if an office had a higher percentage of p/t staff, they could make life uncomfortable for their f/t "comrades"?

Infighting - Exactly what RM management would love to see.clashcityrocker wrote:Surely if an office had a higher percentage of p/t staff, they could make life uncomfortable for their f/t "comrades"?
Use this agreement to unify your office, not divide it. There is no way we would accept our part timers being stuffed over. We have over 200 people in our office and we are in this together, we don't have Utopia, but we know which side really has our interests in mind.

Re: Anyone with duty option 7?
I wasn't suggesting that p/t staff should screw over their f/t colleagues.
We often read on RMC how p/t staff get second class treatment yet we also read that in some offices they are now the majority. If they are the majority then if organised they don't have to accept any more crap.
But I'm with you - all for one etc etc.

I agree with you Clash, in fact I agree with most of the posters on this thread, but experience has led me to believe that most of our colleagues would sell their children if they thought they would finish 20 minutes earlier than everyone else.
