been told today that this is the term they are using for their latest rendition of the sick/absence procedure. if you phone in sick and you expect to be off for a week, or part of it, then you will be asked to attend your workplace on the saturday morning for a face to face with you,re l/m or dom to explain your absence and have yourself assessed. if you are not well enough to attend i.e. in bed with flu, then THEY will come out and see you. sounds like they are checking to see if you,re not abroad or swinging the lead or something. taking bullying and harrassment to a new level in my opinion. management are now qualified doctors so it would seem. anyone else had this.

I couldn't care less, if I'm sick then I'll gladly come into work on a Saturday.................and with my ability to talk and moan I could be there for a long long time.....................it WOULD be the latest they've left the office on a Saturday in a long time

Q I would therefore be grateful if you could provide the procedure management are required
to follow in respect of the following:
1. Keeping in contact with employee
2. Management interview requests and established guidelines for these interviews;

A. In response to points one and two of your request, Royal Mail Group has a contact strategy
with employees who are absent due to illness. On the first day of absence the employee
must contact the manager. A discussion should take place regarding the absence and what
support can be offered to the employee. If the absence is likely to be more than one day
an agreement should be made regarding the amount and nature of the contact during the
first week of absence. If the absence continues for more than seven days regular contact
should be maintained between the employee and manager.

If the employee is absent for longer than two weeks, the manager and employee have the
opportunity to request a meeting. The purpose of this meeting would be to discuss the
return to work plan, identify any ongoing issues or barriers to the return to work and
options available to the employee.

well, judging by what i was told, they, could,nt give a shyte about any agreement, as i said, they are taking b&h to a new level. apparently this has been kicked down from the dsm. who has also said anyone on rehab is to sent to the mail centre, and work their rehab hours over there, but you are to do them in the afternoon. i.e im currently on 6 hours a day rehab for the next few weeks(knee replacement). and i,ve been told to start at the m/c at 4pm, and finish at 10pm. they are making it up as they go along.

But Saturday the DOM will be preping 3 or more walks and then delivering one, how is the poor chap gonna have time to see me?

In our office it goes something like:

Lets say, phone in sick in the morning.
If nobody in, leave message, get phone call later so they can talk to you about your absence.
Maybe receive further calls during week if absence is of unknown length (ie you don't know how long it will last)
If it looks like you're going to be off a week, after about 4 days get letter inviting you to interview with DOM to discuss absence and how they can help you back into work!
Over a week and the DOM says ATOS could become involved.
