Ordering uniform.

Phoned up uniform supplies yesterday to order some new stuff , the operator reeled off a list of stuff i could have. But when she asked what shoes i needed she gave me list saying i could have certain styles as i was a bike round postie. I just said i was a driver and had been for 20 yrs but thought the choice would be the same. This is when she said " if you are a driver why did you order a cycle helmet last month ? " I told her i had never ordered it and would ask the manager today about it. Had a word with the lineo this morning and he informed me they had been ordering cycle helmets against the drivers and trolley staff for months so the office could have a good supply of spares

Why would they need spare cycle helmets when we are all supposed to become Park and Loopy drivers and passengers? Is your manager selling them on Ebay for a few extra quid?

would this suggest that your o/c has been using your wage numbers against ordering
supplys i think if the right investigation team are viewing this you may not have your guvnor
for to long. i would say goodbye to him tomorrow.
what would happen if a member of staff been ringing up for extra uniform. sacked ?

Why would they need spare cycle helmets anyway?
The only time they should need replacing, is if someone has an accident. They take years to wear out, and they're phasing cycles out anyway.

I just recently got a new helmet and spent a bored couple of mins reading the instruction booklet - it says they have a limited life span of approx 3 years, even with no incidents occurring.

I know it's a while (about a decade) since I stopped cycling, but I had no idea that the quality had deteriorated that much. I bought a helmet a few months after they went on the market, and there was no life expectancy mentioned in the instructions (or on the box). I wonder what they expect to wear out (apart from the straps, perhaps).

Of course, there was the warning, that it should be replaced if you have an accident, even if there's no visible damage. But that's a completely different issue.

Never been on a push bike for yrs but if the helmets are anything like motorcycle helmets they have a certain life expectancy. The hard foam liner (styrofoam like stuff between the outer shell and the pads) which provides the bulk of your protection, will eventually break down and loose it's impact absorbing capabilities. So it is recommended to change them every 3 yrs

Deffo sounds dodgy.
We had a manager who ordered various appliances (hoover etc) through first line fix that mysteriously dissappeared as soon as they arrived in his office.

Managers should be able to bulk order hiviz and helmets anyway without ordering them against any specific name, ours does anyway. When they arrive they just say 'replen' on the label instead of the posties name.
