WHY TURN A BLIND EYE ?

Post by Cheetah »

Now we all know the agreement re. working your hours, but in our office the abuse of this is ridiculous.

We have been told at team breifs that if you come in early you will still be asked to work until your finishing time, loads of toadies still come in early particularly on saturdays and are collecting their specials from the locker up to and even more in some cases 1 hour early and gone, obviously causing miss sort issues etc. The management can see this daily yet do nothing. A lot of the offenders are runners and do the duty in their cars so will be finishing in extreme cases 1&1/2 or even 2 hours early   . A lot of them (though some do) don't do docket just straight off home :no no :no no

It's obvious they take short cuts, upset customers and generally give a unprofesional image of RM as the only thing on their mind is getting off early. You can half understand it from a management point when they cover overtime (though this is wrong we all know it is tollerated to save management getting off their back sides) but not when just going home. It is a management failing in my opinion as every day in our office there are duties on overtime which should be covered by these people   . Even if they stopped running / coming in early we would be providing a better service, less miss sorts left back at the office as we would all be going out at roughly the same time.

I was just wondering if this practise goes on in other offices.

Coming in early, working through breaks and cutting corners helps to cover management failure.
It's not only tolerated by management...it's actively encouraged, sometimes using the carrot of finishing early and sometimes with the bullying stick of "performance issues".
If you were a manager under budget pressure from your DSM would you want the office "doing the job properly"?
Certain "flyers" will tell you that as long as they are gaining where is the harm?....and then of course they expect the rep to stand up and argue against increased absorption.
Meanwhile those who are working properly are accused of laziness by management and sadly some of those who call themselves colleagues.
It is both a weakness in management who are far too spineless to stand up to their superiors and fight to have a business unit properly resourced and a weakness in members who, despite all of the changes for the worse that have come and are still to come, continually deny to themselves and others the damage they are doing to our job security.

They are a certain kind of people flyers..they don't tend to turn up for union meetings, they always have an excuse when someone needs help,if you're having a collection for someone they're always a bit short but will catch you later, they will drive past you when it's pissing down and claim they didn't see you.....
Selfish is being too kind to them... :cuppa

Solardarity was lost when the union accepted the latest deal. I don't blame the runners, i blame the union at the top. The union at the top don't support the reps in the delivery office, some maybe newbies. And who blames it when reps are cutting deals to help themselves.
Its dog eat dog in rm now.
THE UNION AT THE TOP ARE TO BLAME FOR THE MESS WE ARE IN!!!!!! (Yes its in capitals).

People may disagree with me but I still think people should be finishing back at their office. Perhaps people would then do the job properly! We should, like all other big firms have a clocking in/out system then we will see how much of RM has been run on goodwill, 10mins here/there will soon add up :cuppa
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

It's not as if they don't have the equipment in place to do it, our ID badges have RFIDs and every office have RFID scanners above the doors

The problem in my office is that people are finishing 2 or 3 hours early . Then go home and return to the office at end of duty !! Whilst others who live to faraway and return to the office early are made to go out and do more :d'oh!
