packets, packets and more packets

Post by celerycelery »

Is there an average figured used when doing a revision of how many packets a town duty gets? What would people say is an average time for knocking at the door, waiting for reply, writing out 739 then away?

I was told 20 for my round for packets unable to go through letterbox by the planners, majorly underestimated

Number of attendance calls ie knocks on the door. Royal Mail currently give about 17 attendance calls per 500 delivery points , it is imporant if you believe that this is more in your office that you argue this case.

It WAS 50% when I started just after SDD, now I think its about 1/3 successful on a good day - mainly because we are delivering later

17 - that would mean 2 or 3 a bag on average at the moment with packet volumes increasing I would say an attendance call would be an average of 5 or 6 per bag

I wonder when and where these "live" tests took place

My personal experience for what it's worth...
I would say 28 seconds for a successful standard packet is OK-ish.
A recorded, tracked or special will take longer especially with a PDA.
I think 78 seconds for an unsuccessful packet of any kind is tight,it more or less assumes that you have everything to hand like a 739,a pen,the PDA,the mail and the packet. We don't have that many hands. :chuckle
It also assumes that you start writing out the 739 almost immediately...and for that you need to be psychic.
I agree with you TBT...i would say that 50% is optimistic and 17 per 500 calls is maybe a little on the low side for all attendance calls.

I've recently had this ARGUMENT, sorry Discussion with my Manager. He was under the impression a package should take no longer than 30 seconds to deliver! ( I think he's confusing it with the time allowed per delivery point on the bullshit calculating machine)! Bollocks I replied It's more like 4 mins once you've knocked etc, filled in 739 and marked up packet etc. That's without walking away and having to come back because they've suddenly realised someone's been banging on their door for the last 2 mins! :arrrghhh More like they they've seen the red card and realise it's NOT THE BAILIFFS!

To be honest I timed it over the next couple of days and I reckon an undelivered packet takes about 2 minutes on average. Fair enough if someone sees you coming up the path and is stood in the door it's a lot less. Due to the fact we've had it hammered home in WTL not to doorstep I spend a lot of time filling in 739s, but I reckon that's what they've told me so no problem! :Very Happy
