Prep time or terminated

Post by Jynxx »

Hello!

We're currently a few weeks into our revision (park&loop) things arn't going that well ...can't imagine why of course according to the computer it should be amazing!
Anyways, this week we were dragged up into a meeting with our dim and his dim (this is 6 of us at a time) we were told that the reason the park&loop isn't working is all down to us being a bunch of bone idle barstewards in so many words and that they are going to watching our inside work very closely,we were told those who are not performing up to standard would have their contracts terminated (25 items per minute)

I was wondering who all the extra dims were walking around the office they were our dims (and his dims) dims (yeah a lot of dims) and they've been walking watching us with stop watches checking our performance over so much time.

Now due to these dims being at the office they are doing daily minute prep tests on everyone checking how long it is taking to throw all the mail out, then checking how long it is taking to set the packets in, how long it is to set the duty and what time we're loading up the van etc. Its all being recorded so anyone not performing to this 25 per minute will be dragged into the office(i walked away from the duty for 5 mins to go to the bog only to be greeted my the dim on return demanding to know where i've been for five mins)

Those who left a bag or so have been getting dragged into the office the following day and being told off for doing so.

Anyways the question i want to know is can they do this? teminate your contract for not performing to this 25 per minute test, pretty sure i read somewhere on this forum that this test wasn't designed for "do it or teminated" if they can't where can i find something in writing so i can shove it up their noses if i can?

Many thanks for any help :) (yeah a smiley face got to stay happy or you'll just be banging your head off the wall not letting the barstewards get to me anymore)

LOL yeah colleague shares all slow postmens fault, nothing to do with them moya and co playing with the books

There was no mention of further training though one postman in the meeting did bring the subject up and it was ignored, we were told about three times if we didn't permform to standard they would be reviewing terminating your contract.

The only thing proven, if you are failing to complete within the allocated time, is that there is insufficient time in the plan to begin with.

Tackle the inadequacies of the plan, not the people asked to act on it.

In general... wouldn't have thought so. "You only did 24 items... your sacked!"

Don't know what your office is like but I think the best way to deal with this is to throw it back at them. Make a mental note if Fred on walk 25 gets timed 3 times in a morning or is spoken to in a 'threatening' manner i.e. "If you don't improve mate your out the door!" Then when you can make a written note in a pad. So....

Friday 13th
8.20am DOM Dave Smith repeatedly 'tested' Fred on walk 25 and was spoke to him in a demeaning and threatening manner by saying X
8.46am DOM John Thomas was unreasonably hostile when Pete Jackson came back from a short toilet break.

Two can play at that game! SO if the the Sh*t does hit the fan then hopefully theres a big log of this sort of behaviour towards the OPG's

Its no brainer eh this whole plan was devised around these wonderful walk sorting machines sorting or at least increasing the amount of mech mail to be sorted in walk sort order! Oh dear never happened !
Therefore this should have decreased the amount of IPS and increased ones Prep time, releasing more peoples off there frames to dual prep, some of these machines were to be placed in delivery offices never happened did it!
Also how many office's implemented plans with the full amount of training...yeah what training!
In the last agreement we be looking forward to additional flexability with regard to leave etc all way through the summer...Ha never happened did it !
So as the norm its our fault ! Yeah Buzzing
There is a great deal of good managers out there unfortunatly they are not allowed to manage they are lead down the yellow brick road being told to lapse etc and thats the problem there not allowed to manage just carry out there weekly dictated orders from people with big ideas on how to make there next pay packet bigger, by strangling those at the bottom of the ladder trying to earn a living.

Pretty sure prep tests should only be done in a clear frame going on those figures and that's not taking into account frames with double slots.

I'll give you a clue as to how valid the threat is....
Is there any part of their stupid pointless little speech available in written form?
Anything with an RM logo on it?
Anything at all?
Didn't think so... :whistle
Ask them for it in writing and watch them s**t themselves...and contact your Area rep. :cuppa

We had one of these meetings yesterday (Thursday) but we were told the standard was 20 per minute then when all the mail and packets are prepped it should average 10 per minute, now I tried explaining that everyone is different and some people prep like my self slower than some but i do get round my delivery pretty quick and thats without rushing and others prep very quickly but are a lot slower on their walk so I suggested that we should be tested on our full days work not indoor and outdoor work then if not up to standard then a manager and union rep should then go out with the postman/women to see were the problem is, guess what I was told that this wasn't an option .

Ha. If any manager stood behind me with a stopwatch while prepping, I'd start timing how long they spend by the coffee machine. I bet I get the better time.

We recently found out that each member was going to be tested on the indoor work (their duty) e.g. preping, setting in, loading van etc. I emailed my Div rep and was told in language that couldn't be misunderstood, that the only agreed test was the 1 minute test. So we put in a disagreement, this was a couple of months ago and so far no more has been heard.

So as others have said get your area or div rep involved and shove in a disagreement quick.

Some of you guys need my rep in your office. They wouldn't have got past the first threat before their proper procedures were thrown back in their faces, and a disagreement lodged.

By the way, the only thing they can do if you are too slow on prepping is give you further training. That is what they agreed. Anything else must be flagged up to your Area/Div Rep.

I'm pretty sure Dingo (where is he?) will set your mind at ease. Maybe Postman can PM him?
