Why did?

Post by Dogs of War »

Why did the planners not use GOOGLE STREET VIEW when doing revisions in offices. Today I put this to the planners in are office and he didnt know what I was talking about. Has anyone on here not done there duty on google street view? It gives a clear indicator of where Im delivering to and every house Im going to. Instead of the maps they are using with a wee runner on screen going from house to house.

That would mean that your delivery was accurately plotted and that would never do.

Its not the planners fault. They were given the tools and had to work with them. Unfortunately the tool that they have been using has failed but the union and RM and letting it continue, why?

Google street view would only touch the surface just like the software. What the planners really needed to do was:

1) Go out with the postman to determine how long each street took.

2) Get feedback from the postman afterwards - working together, instead of being against each other through out the process.

3) Maybe use the software for rural duties.

All in all if you can walk as fast as the little man on the screen, then you'll have no problems finishing your duty. On the other hand i think most of the duties have failed because we are not that little man on the screen and we are all different, but RM don't see it that way. We are all the same supposedly.

The planner doesn't simply have to do what the computer says. The planner also has the option of going out and seeing the reality of delivering.
Perhaps the planners should only be paid by results. If the revision fails - the planner doesn't get paid.
Who does the planner answer to? Is it the DSM or do they have a separate management structure?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

We all know how it works. An office has to lose x hours, the planner comes in and despite the re-assurances, the office loses x hours.

The main flaw in the planning is that it doesn't take into account the different volume of mail for each area. We have affluent areas delivered by our office that get a ton of mail every day, and not so wealthy areas that get feck all. Yet their messed up software says 600 drops in one area takes the same time to prep and deliver as 600 drops on the other! :arrrghhh

Now we have a lucky few going out with four bags a day, but many others having ten bags a day to cope with!

...but all rounds are now even in the eyes of the DOM!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

I think you make a great point.
I'm a floater and one of the walks I do is in one of the wealthiest and most affluent areas of the city,so you get absolute ****-loads of packets, magazines, journals etc.
And one of the other walks I do is to a severely run-down council estate where there is next to nothing to deliver apart from a few giros and debt letters.
People say I must hate delivering to the council estate,I tell them its probably my "favourite" of the walks I do.On average it takes me about 30 mins less to prep and I usually finish about 30 mins earlier aswell, plus I only have 5 ,rather light, bags to deliver.
But because the council estate has about 100 more calls and numerous flights of stairs to climb ,it is assumed to be equal to the walk in the affluent area. The huge discrepancy in mail volumes between duties never seems to be taken into account when planning these walks. Why?

In addition, theres also google latitude, which can track where you are and at what time and the distance covered using GPS in phones. Mightve been useful in the planning stages for the planner to walk round the route with this and get accurate timings from reality than some model.

Even without P&L we have these issues, all I get as a retort is "you're delivering in a nice area, so it's better than being on x-estate everyday" - the fact that it takes probably half an hour more is obviously irrelevant.. Useless fecking software, used by useless feckers = shite unequal walks!

Planners coming back in to LS8,said we're working at 110% cos all the collapsing and would listen to all suggestions/ideas.Then said at least 2 walks coming out whatever we say.
