Health & safety rep's card? legal reguirement?

I've just taken on our H & S reps role. College tutor has told me you need to have a card to get your legal status as a H & S rep, is this true? no other reps i've talked to at royal mail have heard of this. A couple of others at college have cards, but work in different industrys and unions.

NOT SAYING ITS NOT TRUE BUT I HAVE BEEN A H&S REP FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS AND ITS NOT BOTHERED ME

News to me also and I've been a cwu workplace/unit h&s rep for over 14 years. It may be a recent thing but the CWU H&S Department have not advised us one way or the other.

And on checking it does look like at least one trade union does issue their safety reps with cards.

Your branch should give you your acreditation went you become a rep
its a bit of paper stating that you are the rep. Your legel rights are covered
in the safety reps & safety committees regs ( the brown book) try the link
