Dom Assists

Hi all is there anyone out there knows the role of the Dom Assists and what authority they have over other members of staff, I'm sure i was once told that they are only an opg like the rest of us ? any help on this would be grateful.

lets get it straight no one has authority over anyone you come to work to get money nothing more nothing less , yes they can ask you to perform a task but have no authority over you ......unless your a doormat
or perhaps in your case a closet dictator

ours is called the d.o.m support,,,,and basically seems to just be a lazy postman,,,thats all the job is,,,just a postman that stays in and is a goffer for the boss,,,,he collects the misssorts in a morn,,,clears deads,,,and puts out d2d each week,,,and errrrr thats it,,,he aint got any authority,,,,we lapse,,,we did ask for them to lapse this position,,,,seems logical,,,even the boss doesnt need him,,,,the response was his job is ring fenced LOL

mmmm our d.o.m support is long term sick,,,,,and is covered by any postman thats either on light duties or taken off a walk cos they have plenty of cover,,,,in this case seems to me its a position that can be done without

Lol, You obvously haven't done the job. I do and there's a damn sight more to it than that. Unless the gaffer is doing his work for him.
I look after brps ,post boxes,test letters, the aplus and other address maintenance progs,the D2D (admin,putting out and counting and filling out the forms for the returns,all the frames,redirection reordering,the Wrap System and a crap load of other stuff. I also prep a duty, drop off all the bags and clear the local post offices. Oh and I'm usually the first one they turn to when the crap hits the fan and someone goes sick or hands back.

I don't have and don't want any authority over the lads but do try to sort out any problems if the Gaffers have cleared off.

Thats childs play compared to my 2 and half hr 360 call delivery from hell!

Yes in the days of 2nd deliveries, when the dom supp actually did a round then came back but no 2nd delivery, but not these days.

1 gaffer, 1 underling gaffer, 1 dom supp and the PHG all full time, thats 32 hours a DAY on desk duties.

Gaffer is in there from 6am until after 2, if he cant do everything the dom supp does in his daily duties then he shouldnt be in the job.

Miss-sorts, prep, sorting, deads and D2D are jobs for posties and the PHG, NOT DOM SUPPORT.

Depends on how big your office is.It's an interesting job and gives an insight in to how an office is organised/run.Any half decent line manager/supervisor should be able to do this job or at least have some idea.The trouble is ............most managers DON'T HAVE A CLUE.

That's what has gone wrong over the years......the managers making decisions don't have the knowledge or experience.
