Our branch heath & safety rep is useless, forgets to do his accident forms, everything he does messes up, have phoned in many times for info and does not know.
Does not have a driving licence so never comes to the sub offices and his really rude on the phone so i put it down on him a couple of weeks ago he also has a beard
Three sub reps resigned because of him.

The pair of you have obvious gripes against your respective area health and safety reps if as you intimate are nae guid then why not consider first becoming unit or workplace health and safety reps then in turn if a vacancy occurs stand for the position of area h&s rep.

Iam a h&s rep for my unit and it pisses me of when staff in our office say that I do not do much. But all they have to do is look around them to see the improvements made, It would also be nice if staff realised that they are also responsable for h&s. It's not easey to be the h&s rep anywhjere and this is why people do not wish to do it, Imy self am very lucky in the fact that I have brill support from my erea rep and the dum's in my office, they are alway's ready to talk and if and when poss which is more often than not to implement changes for the better. I always try to find answers for my work mates and let them have the info as soon as I have it

Our office H&S Rep is great. The screws hate him and he hates them. He gets the job done as much as he possibly can given the obstructive attitudes of the DUM and the screws. He's also the Sub-Rep now. Top lad.

It is a tough job and very often finding the right ballance is very difficult. The Safety reps do need the support of their fellow workers though. Bear in mind that often, we are our own worse enimies and the safety rep may tell you not to do something for your own safety but you think they are being over zellous!

I recon the job is a very hard to please job but when done correctly is a much satisfying job... Must be,,, I would love to see a postie get all there deserts from RM when treated so badly in the past as most have been... Cases wont always be won by H&S reps but lets give em a chance and let the law deal with RM and there parasitical screws who only care when its there balls in a sling... Then they jump.... I would close down a few DO's i know as well... NOT FIT FOR ANIMALS....

The red tape must be a pain but so is a frontal lobotomy!!!

Im speaking about the area H & Safety rep not any unit rep , fact is this fella was even booed by a women member at his long service award dinner , both mark21 and me are former cwu reps so we KNOW how much s**t other members give out .
Health and safety reps are tops but not not at cheshire mo 1 .

I am glad you view that most health and safety reps are tops. Could you clarify if both yourself and mark21 were former health and safety reps or were you both Industrial Relations Reps. I am sorry that in your opinion health and safety is not as it should be in Cheshire mo 1. As a unit / workplace health and safety rep (9 yrs) health and safety to my way of thinking is paramount. Both you and I and a few thousand other cwu comrades well know that Royal Mail falls far short on their h&s responsibilities as an employer. I would be the first to agree they have the policies (paper trail) but execution of their own policies or indeed maintaining current health and safety legislation they fall far short on.

It is also a sad indictment that a lot of Royal Mail employees fall far short of their own indivual legal health and safety responsibilities as well. As some other comrade has so able said - we can be or own worst enemies at times when it comes to health and safety.

I also have a good working relationship with my own Area Health and Safety Rep and that is as it should be throughout the business.

Both me and mark21 were both cwu unit reps and really had little to do with health and safety , we had to deal with stage 1 and 2 sicks plus RTU .
When the area h &s rep hardly comes to our office i dont call that a good service do you ?
