Hey all! I started working for Royal Mail back in July. I was just wondering how long the 'trial period' is for. My contract runs out on 26/09/2011, though I have been told its been renewed.
Just for the record I'm on a 35 hour a week, 3 month contract.

Six months I believe is the standard trial time.
But given you have a temporary contract that has just been renewed, do not be under any illusions... When your depot has its modernisation revision (two posties going out in a van together using Light Weight Trolleys to deliver mail in loops, with the exception of addresses within a mile of the depot), you contract will almost certainly be terminated. Temporary contracts were created to keep depots ticking over until these so called saving kick in. Whether you do overtime for free or agree to paid overtime when you really do not want to will make no odds, you are a means to an end in the managers' eyes for a very short period of time.

Interested to know how the sick would work for these contracts,does say after a year they (for sick purposes) are not on trail after 12 months?

I was on 25hr 3 month temporary contract, got renewed for another 3 months, then it's renewed as permanent.
A couple of months into the permanent one it got switched upto 39hrs, ~ just about when the revisions were kicking in in our office.
