Can DOM stop me from using my l/w trolley?

I use a lightweight trolley for my p/l round because of the amount of packets per loop but my DOM wants me to use bags because trolleys are slower.
Can my DOM make me use bags and stop me from using a lightweight trolley?
Or can I refuse and carry on

good question i use the trolley because of the volume on most of my loops ,occassionally where i have only a couple of bundles and packets ill carry ,as the weight is easy to handle, the speed with and without the trolley is clear to see as my buddy usually has one bag and never uses trolley always carries and always a head of me , would be good to know where we stand,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

From what i have digested from the threads regarding trolley use it would seem that unless there are genuine reasons for not using a trolley, H&S, lots of blocks of flats, steep hills etc that they must be used. No being fast enough to suit your DOM isnt a genuine reason for him to forbid its use as far as i can see.

Now...what would happen if a manager told you,against all the guidance from both Royal Mail and CWU...not to use a trolley....and you hurt your back.
Get his request/order in writing,make sure that your objections and worries are duly noted.....get a copy of the yellow pages.......and flick to the section marked...Injury Lawyers.

Where you stand has been said again and again. By not using a trolley and carrying pouches you are going faster, thereby showing your DOM and their bosses that a job that cannot be done in time correctly can actsually be done. When during the PIR your dom and/or planner sends off a paper that says your job was completed on such and such day, they will not write you used pouches the assumption will be you used a trolley because to use pouches would be a matter of conduct when a trolley should be used. You are stitching yourself and your workmates up!!!!!!

If you dont give a stuff about these things as it appears most dont, then consider what will happen when you make a mistake or have an accident and it comes to light you werent using the correct equipment

If your dom says use a bag then he is in breach of Health and safety guidlines as well as safe systems of work and tell him to put it in writing to you, them grass his arse up.

many thanks for that as i say only have one loop of my duty where i only get one bag that has about 40 calls on ,all the others are two or more so trolley is always used , i suffered twice last year with back injuries one very scary where i ended up in hospital, so i wont risk that again, as for my buddy and cover i dont think they will change

I use a HCT so this is prob not relevant to a LWT.

I park my trolley near a lampost, chain it and loop from it with a bag in either direction then move it to another section and loop again. It involves a little dead walking between points but i often use them to drop off any packets i did not fancy putting in the bag. I am only ever carring half a bag this way with a couple of bundles in.

It still takes longer than carring the whole bag from a bike but i think its quicker than pushing the trolley to every house and i suffer with lower back pain from time to time so if its a real heavy day i simply break the loops down further.

I use my bike at the moment in such a way that I do 'little loops', keeping the bike in sight, then moving it along once I've looped around it. The upside of this is that I can carry more and don't have to return as often to pick up extra bags. I also don't have to carry any weight bar the packets for each 'loop' (which is usually no more than two or three on a terrible day, zero on a lot of the loops). Downsides of the method? Well ... there aren't any. It's basically the best and most efficient way to deliver mail. Quicker than an HCT, weight off the shoulder, and you don't look like a prick all the time. And since devising this method my physical well-being has been boosted ten-fold. I don't often feel knackered.

I have to admit I'm dreading our revision. It's going to take all this efficiency of mine, gobble it up, and churn out a completely unworkable model based on a little trip through phantasmagoria.

I use a bike for part of my delivery as its too hilly for the trolley. I keep a few bundles in the panniers so no mail is showing and keep the bike in sight chained up, doing mini loops. You need to be real carefull though should the mail get stolen, best to say you were just up a path.
