assaulting a customer

Post by postman8 »

i had a letter which i tried to deliver as addressed to a single letterbox of a house which has 4 flats inside one of the owners of the flats took the mail off me and told me to take a letter back as he did not live here any-more.
its a town round and i only started it a few months ago and dont no who lives where so told them i deliver as addressed and she should endorse it if the guy had left.
she was not having this and tossed the letter at me so i picked it up and went to post it in the letterbox with this she stepped back to block my delivery so i started to walk away she then told me to give her the letter which i did .
next thing i no she has written a letter to dom saying i verbally and physical assaulted her and a fantom witness has come to light from the same address as hers to back her up now i have a formal interview what do i do ?

when having your meeting with your manager make sure you have your union rep with you,
also put down in writing what happened put times and what was said by the customer and you, do
this straight away as you need a good account as what did happen and make sure you photo-copy
your report give one to the o/c and rep and keep one yourselve.
if your o/c is any decent he should back you, and should go and see the customer to keep her happy.

should be no problem.

Get the coppers involved. The police will no doubt smell a rehearsed witness statement if it goes that far. but the scum will probably drop any accusation at the 1st mention of the police.

As long as you are 100% innocent i would agree.
You have to give your manager reasonable cause to believe you and not the customer.
If you are willing to involve the police and the customer isn't it makes the customer's side look very weak.

Sounds like a good approach. Not only will the complainant have a decision to make, so will the 'witness'. And if they've been coerced into seeing it the complainant's way they'll start to regret getting involved. Unless they're scared of the complainant (who does sound on the aggressive side) then the sensible thing for the witness is to end involvement now.

They are probably doing it as a wind up. We may work our nuts off every day, but many scroungers sit around bored looking for things to do to entertain themselves!

As was mentioned if it was assault then these people should have contacted the police not your manager. Why did they not do this? Because it's all bullshit!

Tell the truth, stick to the truth and the truth as they say will out!

Like we all don't have enough to do without idiots trying to get us in trouble.

Good luck with it!

Oh and she tossed the letter at you, that's assault is it not?
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

iv given a statement with a area union rep present this was 4 days after incident neither then or in my previous conversation was a witness mentioned only when my dom said 2 days later after speaking to customer that he was making it formal was this mentioned.
seems strange it took so long to come out and did give the 2 of them 5 days to get story straight.
seems she has threatened to go to police herself maybe to push the manager into taking action.
iv got my formal meeting with dom tomorrow area rep again coming down as manager is going to decide if he drops case, takes action himself or passes it higher up.
been getting some info together and am confident i can shoot down her witness and there fabricated statement and have gained info that this women has previous with a second postman for losing it when things did not go her way
just worries me that royal mail seem to want to get staff sacked at any cost and instead of backing me will see it as a chance to get rid of me.
im quite militant one of only 5 in are office that do the job properly and break off when needed don't think this will work in my favour.
not really sure what to expect tomorrow as i have been taken off round by manager and made to work in office so if it goes higher think being suspended might happen tomorrow and ill be coming home early

your manager is playing it safe by taking you off your duty, but when you are put back on
your walk it would be an idea that if the customer could cause further problems have there mail
held at your office and that they can collect their mail.your o/c should contact the customer and explain
why the mail is being held at your office.
if we have a problem in our office with customers we tend to deliver any packets or parcels for them
very early in the night or morning drivers love to make plenty of noise.

anyway good luck tomorrow and let us know what happens.

i had my meeting today manager decision weather to send it higher up ladder to come end of week .
saw statements by both parties and managed to pick massive holes in both .
a postman has come forward to say he has had a run in with same customer so he needs to be interviewed first but i have now found 2 more witness that will back up the customer is known to be awkward 1 is a manager so decision might take longer.

Involve the Police is what I would do.

I had a similar thing with one customer and my Lino did nothing, so I went down to the Police station and got them in, they went round to the Customers house, where he was given a severe talking to with the threat of arrest if it reoccurs, not one more crap off him, the fact I am prepared to go that far must have put the sh1ts up him, dozy old fcuker I hate Victor Meldrews :evil/mad
