Hi chaps,
After a bit of advice if possible as I'm a bit worried about something....
I'm really not sure what's happened but someone went to the post office today for his recorded parcel and it's not there. I'm very careful about leaving slips and checking parcels and when I finish my round I check all my slips left parcels with my book so I know how many recordeds I should be handing over to the post office and have never had a missing one. The customer did not have a slip left card so in error I could have possibly mis-read the house number or something but the name would be the same (although I've never done this before).
So now the post office are saying they haven't got it, the customer wonders where it is (and for some reason hasn't had a slip left card) but I peeled the bar code off and put in my book so I must have had it. I'm 99.999% sure the post office have got it but what happens if it doesn't turn up - am I for the chop?
We just hand it in to the post office - they don't make us sign or print anything. I do have the bar code in my book though (without a signature of course).
Don't worry about it. One of my "form lefts" that i returned to the local Post Office went for a burton about a year ago, and all that happened was I got queried about it. I don't get on with the old bint behind the counter and I'm sure she tried to stitch me up, but as I say, nothing came of it.

You should always get the PO to stamp your card on each recorded/special you've returned. Then anything goes missing it's their problem.
Yeah I think I will from now on - they should really have a better system than just handing the parcels over. It's not something I could get sacked for is it?
If they don't have a proceedure to sign for items that are handed in then that is their problem, their lack of security leaves it wide open to who the finger could be pointed at, your job is safe because there is no proof you have done anything wrong. If you think you handed it in then stick to that story.
Sime, are you a driver dropping off stuff (from the RLE)to the PO for a local collect?
I do this and we've had stuff go missing so we have a book in the RLE and when we do stuff like this it is noted down in said book.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Any parcel we leave a slip for we leave at the local post office at the end of the round and they stamp to say they've reveived the specials. The customer went to Customer Services today to put a complaint in / request a compensation payment.
Today when I left everything I made sure they stamped the recordeds as well as the special. I hope nothing comes of it next week when our manager is back as I'm certain the fault lies with the Post Office.

Our local P.O's refuse to stamp for orange items only SD as they claim there not paid for it. I've even heard of an office that uses a P.O as a callers and they don't get them to sign for SD's received. Was told that if it had been scanned to callers then it WAS at P.O. they've never had a problem I'm told!
