Is there anybody within royal mail with authority who actually gives a damn about their staff not using the correct tools for the job ie -

non use of lwt
Hwt trolley used to transit mail out then tied to a lampost
Bags over the shoulder.

The only thing thats changed here is people have been paid 1k for the privilege of not using their own cars!! :pray

Your rep should give a damn, your colleagues should give a damn.
Seems your mob are making a rod for their own backs.

What SHOULD happen and what ACTUALLY happens are poles apart!

It will still be seen as the CWU's fault no matter the attention given to: 'doing your job properly', the attitude of private car users, the mentality of coming in early and the 'finish as early as i possibly can' brigade ... :arrrghhh

How much attention has been given to "doing the job properly" or the mandatory use of assigned delivery methods since the implementation of BT2010?
The lighten the load campaign was 4 long years ago Ahebban.
Many of the members weren't even members then.
The CWU has an obligation to those who are doing the job properly...never mind those who aren't.
Those are the members who are entitled to see fault where it lies.

the new methods are here but managers still turning a blind eye to please them selves, i was bullied into taking a break this week only for others being able to work through their breaks just so managers can get them out so they don't leave the mail. mail is being left every day at our office, seems to me that mangers don't give a dam.

As and when it suits RM and DOM's is the obvious reply!

Any self-respecting CWU Rep would be reporting these matters on a regular basis at WRM (notes of which are sent to ADR and ADM - at least that happens in my DO). The responsibility lies with management in ensuring implementation of agreements, and not pick and choose the bits that suit their agenda. I agree that CWU HQ has still not fully grasped the need to be seen and heard, and that important messages have been lost under the weight of built-in ambiguities relating to the BT Agreement and Joint Working Groups for this, that and the other.

It does require Unit Reps to do the donkey-work and continue to badger members and non-members alike, of the damage that current practice is doing to their future livelihood. However, Unit Reps cannot do this on their own. No matter how much literature you push out to staff it still requires Area, Divisional and HQ personnel to get out of their ivory towers and spend time with ordinary members on the front-line. I went on a number of the 'Keep Our Post Public' rallies at which Billy bumbled and Dave spoke. Supporters at these rallies cheered and greeted them along with other speakers on the platform. The problem was that the underlying message needed to be directed at the people who WEREN'T there and not to the committed who were there!

As I wrote earlier, the only way that message is going to be heard and heeded is having those words come from 'someone on high' in the room directed at all, and not just those already commited to the cause of trying to save our livelihoods.

Lets be honest,if the rep is banging his head against a brick wall fair enough call the cavalry in,but lets be honest again, when the area/div rep does his speech, the members will stand there like nodding dogs.
When they walk out the door it's back to same o same o,you've all been there right?

What should happen is the area/div get involved with RM more if it's been flagged up to them, get HQ involved as well.
If the local rep is not seeing anything done then they need to go to BOTH HQ's themselves.

This of course would only happen if you've a rep that gives a f**k. :cuppa

Would i do this if i was a rep, you're damn right i would!

We have the whole mandatory thing in the guidelines and the agreement.
It is,considering how vague most of our agreements are...pretty straightforward...the use of the assigned delivery methods is mandatory...continued failure to use them is a conduct issue.
So why aren't local IR and especially H&S reps kicking off big time if RM are actively encouraging members not to?
Is it because the trolleys/delivery methods aren't popular with members and reps are taking the easy way out?
Why HQ is saying nothing is a different matter. :cuppa

Certainly not at my DO. The mandatory issues are brought up at WRMs, action plans are made and deadlines set (IR and H&S). Those same issues are discussed at Area level. It is the failure of senior managers (Area and Regional) to ensure that mandatory requirements are adhered to by DOMs and not CWU Reps failing in their role. As I say I can only speak for my DO and area. The very reason we have the problems is because there are Reps/DOMs who do not wish to rock the boat - ignore agreements etc to give themselves an easy life. It is not difficult to work out that a Unit which fulfills its obligations under the various Agreements are most likely (but not always) being ignored. So it stands to reason that Area/Div Reps should concentrate their attention on the units where all appears well as much, if not more so, than the Units where there are problems.

If they cannot see that one should perhaps question their capability in their representative role at Area/Divisional level.
