where i used to work before joining the glorious royals ..managers had to do a weeks stint in every department .to get to know the place ..royal managers should have to do a week on every walk to see what fun it all is ..so come on dudes its all worked out by geo route . alls equal and should not present any problems ..you should be done well within the given time even on the busiest of days and even with loads of pkts 14 recordeds and 6 lots of d2ds thrown in to the mix .it will be ALL soooooo easy easy easyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

There is a manager on the site,can't rem who he was though so not sure if he's still active,that said once a week he went out on a walk picked by the staff.

A lot of businesses do this to ensure their managers stay in touch with what is going on on the shop floor.
It is a really simple idea.
It might actually lead to a massive improvement in IR in Royal Mail if they adopted it.

We had a raffle 2 Christmases ago.
The prize was a day off...DOM covers your shift.

We've had a few reserve managers that actually took out Deliveries. They got Mega Respect from the Staff for doing it. One Manager covered Three Duties in a day, admittedly they were "Streamed" but at least he had a go! Trouble with these idiots is they don't realise that Respect has to be Earned...it's not simply awarded with the job title!

Most of our managers don't last long enough to do one day on each walk in the office, although all of the ones we have had have gone out on delivery at some point. I think it would be useful for managers to go and spend time in other functions ie MC managers go work in DO and DO managers go and work in MC. This might help us acutally work together instead of against each other all the time as seems to be the case.
