PHG job

Hi

Been at RM for 5 years now, and my manager was on about training me up as a PHG. The thing is, we have 2 PHG's in our office both about 50 years of age, so cant see them retiring anytime soon, we also have a guy who is a PHG reserve for when they are on holidays. I never really see a PHG job coming up in other offices, so can't really see the point of me doing this.

Is the PHG job a good job & well paid? Also does the PHG job ever come up in a repick or is it ringfenced?

Here its the same pay as your average OPG. No idea about who gets to sign for it as its all been a bit murky. A senior guy demanded to be given it on seniority despite not being trained. They trained him but after 2 weeks reckoned he was working way more hours so went back to an OPG. Managers says its their decision Union says its seniority.

I was recently trained. Is it worth it? to be honest it swings in roundabouts. On heavy heavy days when its pouring etc PHG job is pretty good. On a light Tuesday when the OPG's are going home 3 hours early it stinks!

One thing to really bear in mind.... you cannot make a mistake without everyone knowing. Give a postie one of your mis-sorted SD's and they'll refuse to do it leaving you to scrabble around trying to get it delivered by a now very annoyed driver. Mis-scan something and it'll show up. Send something without scanning it or in the wrong bag and its YOU that got to explain where it is etc.

REMEMBER its a responsible job if you make genuine mistakes people might think your up to no good! Some like that others hate it.

Oh and don't EVER EVER forget to confirm everything by cut off!!

No such thing as PHG anymore. Looks like your DOM wants you trained up in the 'cage' so that you can cover sickness/holiday......good luck

You have to stay inside all day.....every day.
The managers are in the building as well.
It is a terrible job.
And if you only do it occasionally you will constantly struggle to remember everything.
And why would anyone want to work a late shift if they didn't have to? For nothing extra?
