Use of Twitter to let customers know where you are
Im expecting most of you to view this idea as lame, especially if you have never used Twitter, but here goes.....
Was thinking, with so many using twitter these days, even Royal Mail customer services....
Posties on regular rounds, with smart phones...
Send a tweet out when leaving the office to go off on your round, brief information to say how heavy the load is today and your expected finish time.
If someone is waiting on an important parcel, they could tweet back asking where you are and how long until you get to their house.
If they are going out, they could tweet you asking your location and come and find you to collect a parcel off you as long as they have 2 proofs of address on them.
Obviously they would need to know about it and your twitter username, so you would put cards through every door on our round the week before. (obviously funded by RM)
Technology is there to be used and embraced and im sure the general public would love this kind of service.
Another option, could be to have a round ID and password (kept in each rounds log book) for every round in the office, so if you are covering a different round you would just login on that rounds twitter account for the day, keeping the service going on the regulars day off.
flame jacket is now on......

Re: Use of Twitter to let customers know where you are
I've a better idea, give us all bigger vans with some sort of serving hatch, when we go into a street we play a little tune (Greensleeves or similar) and the people come out and get their post and packets...................................I'm now off to Dragons Dens to see if I can get my idea a little capital

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

With 900+ drops some of my ex colleagues will be tweeting more than delivering.
Sorry but this is a bad idea.
What next? GPS nanochip applied to each letter so customer can track it anytime anywhere?
You heard it here first!
ps. that idea is now my intellectual copyright ok?

Re: Use of Twitter to let customers know where you are
Might be nice to have this put as a poll in the customers forum. Given 3 options, good idea, bad idea, not bothered
I'm sure most on here would come up with a reason not to to use it, afterall people don't like change, however it's a customer service business like it or not, so I'm guessing the (younger) public would greet such a service.
As a customer of RM who gets a lot of packets, I'd certainly use it

You can actually use twitter via text messages
