Door Stepping Catalogues

Do any of you door step those horrible big catalogues that do not fit through letterboxes and there is no answer when you knock on the door ?

I am really tempted to do this, so that I don't have to carry it around again. I reckon it should be ok especially the ones that are wrapped in plastic so they cannot get wet. I mean who the hell is going to steal a catalogue ?

"If the recipient is not at home and the item is non letterboxable then it should be left in the vicinity of the letterbox, out of public sight and under shelter from the elements".
Where should the ‘alternative default delivery point’ be for RM Heavyweight Items?
It must be in the vicinity of the letterbox.
When is it not safe to leave?
o If the alternative is clearly a risk to your safety
o If the alternative leaves the item in full view and liable to theft
o If it is not possible to protect the item from the weather
Whenever delivery is not possible due to one of the reasons shown above complete a P739 and return the item to the office.

For those SAGA brochures that I have been delivering lately, I think there were 3 or 4 brochures packed together inside a plastic envelope. I got that sick of them that I ended up ripping the plastic and then posting them through individually !!

Also if you 739 a brochure, do you not think that the person who your delivering to would be a bit sick if they traveled all the way to the delivery office for a crappy SAGA brochure, I know I would. Also I have tried 739 these and I just get them back in my bag the next day, and told not to desp them, so its either carry them out again the next day, find a neighbour to keep hold it until the person comes back and 739 this, or doorstep it and 739 it. I think the doorstepping option is the most sensible for these non valuable mail.

Alternative Delivery Specification (ADS)

The Alternative Delivery Specification (ADS) has been developed in order to aid first time
delivery of these packets. The sender will attach standard delivery guidance instructions,
as to where a non-letterboxable item should be left, to every Royal Mail Heavyweight item
in order to minimise the need for recipients to visit a Delivery Office to collect these items.
Upon delivery, any non-letterboxable items will be checked for an ADS instruction sticker
and when one is found and the instruction clearly recognisable, then the item will be left in
a suitable place and a ‘P739 card will be placed through the letterbox to draw attention
to the location of the item. In the event that items either do not show an instruction that is
recognisable, if there is no ADS or if the ADS is unsuitable, the item will be returned to the
Delivery Office and treated as per any other undeliverable item.
An Alternative Delivery Point sticker will show the following wording;
“If not at home leave out of public view in a safe place, sheltered from the weather and
notify customer via P739. If no suitable place, use standard P739 procedures and return to
Delivery Unit”
Alternative Delivery Point differs from Safeplace. The former will be applied to all items
within a mailing and is chosen by the posting customer whilst the latter is a specific
location chosen by the receiving customer and therefore will only apply to a selection of
items within a Royal Mail Tracked™

Why risk your job for doing stupid things, opening peoples mail is a big no no, plus what does it matter if you've to take them out everyday? If your manager insists on anything else then ask for it in writing.


All you have to do is work to your time everyday, if RM want you to take out Saga magazines everyday until you manage to get them delivered then so be it, they're paying for the time so you do it.

I'm racking my brains here, but still can't remember seeing any of these with the instructions on, so if we have had them, they're about as rare as rocking horse s**t.
