Blow your trumpet

Post by muzzy »

This could be interesting and put posties into a good light

What things have you done While on duty to help the public?

Today I knocked on the neighbours of a house with nobody in that had had water coming from the bathroom overflow since the morning before and concerned they could have a major flood indoors!
They knew the occupants daughter and were going to contact her as the owners are on holiday.
Ok I know it's hardly saving a life but hopefully I've helped overt a nasty home coming for the owners

Oh and when I was a paper boy 25 years ago aged 13, I alerted a household their garage was on fire at 7 am while they were still sleeping, the following day I got a £5 tip for my actions :chuckle

"What things have you done While on duty to help the public?" - Deliver the mail in a timely and efficient way while maintaining a friendly and cheerful attitude, and taking mail to be posted, rounding up escaped poultry, getting the lid off a jars of pickle, enquiring as to everyone's health and wellbeing, commenting on the weather, driving the van courteously with due respect to most other road users, avoiding talking about sex, politics and religion, .....

when i was on foot, almost weekly i would go to houses and the people have left their keys hanging on the outside of the door. usually i just knock and they answer and i tell them about the keys. this one time there was nobody in so i thought 's**t! what do i do now?' if i post them back through they might then be locked out, if i take them back to the office and put a card through they can't see the card if they are locked out, i can't leave it in the door frame cos anyone could go to the office and claim them. i decided to take them with me and took a note of the name on the mail and put my mobile number on a card in the door frame. sure enough he called me half an hour later, i asked him his name and said i would meet him to give him his keys back. he came promptly round, snatched the keys out of my hand, muttered something which i think (hope) was a thank you and drove straight back off! the time before a different guy insisted i take a fiver off him. you live and learn!

Complete strangers don't like attention being drawn to their absent mindedness or stupidity. One fella in our office did something similar to what you have described, and the 'lady' owner of the keys in question told him to "f*** off".

Fixed a gas fire in winter for an OAP who was freezing and once a woman asked me into her bedroom to kill a spider as she was an arachnophobe.
However by the time I got there the spider had disappeared.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Blow my trumpet? Well, let's see. I never help anybody in peril. If I see somebody has left their keys in the door, car, I smile to myself gleefully and walk on by. The drunken misfortunes of others cause me great mirth as I step over and around them, though sometimes I am prone to let an 'accidental' foot slip on to their fleshy regions.

All in all I'm a top bloke.
