Had four go - all 30 yr plus ! Some had only few weeks left till retirement but just couldnt cope :( it tells me what I already sussed - jobs gone and it's all VERY sad - you kinda ask yourself why oh why is this happening ????

a senior guy at our place lost 4 stone when he went on p&l ( and nearly all his marbles) as he was a driver before

so yes the service is commendable but are they jumping ship due to actually having to work as hard as us walkers have over the years?

We had a 40 year guy go last year......took him 40 years to get to the top of the seniority list then they took his duty off him and made him a reserve.

Gee what a nice guy you are love to have you as a boss ....but there again i'd no doubt have poked you in the face years ago

And how long has fed up postie been in service ? Dont think the fact p and l has been the reason soley - the bigger picture is that they would have worked hard all through the years as the whole job has always been harder than most jobs - I think fact is you get lied too , treated like dirt at times , messed about from duty resigns etc , warned for genuine sick ( even a heart attack etc will still be issued) ! Out I'm all weathers and working alongside some people who run round cutting up the job and making mistakes has proberbly decided the right move for them ! Oh and proberbly the fact that the best days of this job have become nothing but memories .

This is the beauty of seniority. After a while you'll have the choice of whether you wish to continue to walk or drive. Years ago yes, the drivers had it cushty, but this was normally when you had enough seniority to pick a decent duty. Nowadays they're mostly required to walk or part walk as much as the walking person. Is this fair when you're maybe 50+ and getting too long in the tooth to walk anymore? Good question I think but I'd hate to think that after 30 years I'd still be required to walk. I had this done to me last year where they took my collection off me and asked a 20hr contract to come in on o/t to do my collection. After 6 months I was shagged. Hip went and also arm from pulling the damned golf trolley. Off to the physio and also a Grievance was handed in to the DOM. Sorted, but still in pain even after nearly a year later.
