Induction day + fixed term

What do you do at the induction day, it goes on all day? And i have a fixed term contract that goes on until March next year. Does this mean i wont be working there after that or do RM have you sign another contract?
Also the job title said OPG 'my town' DO. Does this means delivery person?

Various things:

Sign the Official Secrets Act
Complete Documentation
H&S Brief
Introduction to RM
Introduction to the CWU
A brief tour of a Mail Centre or Delivery Office depending where the induction is held.

Sometimes - My mates lasted 6 hours mine 3 hours - all depends on who does it and how many new entrants - I would plan on all day.

Either is possible it depends on the local situation at that time.

Yes - Operational Postal Grade is the full title. We used to have AGs and PHGs as well but now we are all the same grade.

It may it may not.

At the moment Royal Mail is changing from primarily delivering letters by bikes and foot individually , with business and large parcels going by van - to mostly being delivered by pairs of posties using a Van&Trolley Combination or Large Trolleys. This means that a lot of duties are changing and because management see savings, jobs are going.

Therefore if your area has had the changes then yes the chances of your contract being rolled over are fairly good at least till the dust settles. However if you are being brought in just before the change they have employed casuals just for the bedding in period - therefore how well it beds in will have an effect on your chances. If the change is a fair way off then they may keep you till the change affects the office.

As you can see the local situation will have an impact so once you have settled in try to keep informed of what is happening in your unit.
