How is the cycle helmet rule implemented in your office?
Obviously whenever you are cycling on any road then it must be worn at all times, but what about when your on the path scooting between delivery points? The helmet I feel when I have tried is far too uncomfortable and impractical to wear constantly, and to keep on and offing is also a pain.
What is the exact RM ruling does anyone know?.....

In England and Wales is is an offence prohibited by Section 72 of the Highway Act 1835, amended by Section 85(1) of the Local Government Act 1888.

Cycling on footways (a path at the side of a carriageway) is punishable by a fixed penalty notice of £30 under Section 51 and Schedule 3 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

It is also an offence in Scotland prohibited by Section 129 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984

That many people cycle on the paths and pavements in our town I thought this law had been repealed, even the flipping Police do it, and since Mr Blair had his cycleways brainstorm a lot of our pavements have cycle ways in half of them, when they stop cyclists just carry on along the pavement.

I have 2 RM helmets but have never worn one and doubt I ever will, and I cycle on the pavement and will continue to do so, and I think you'll find that the police don't mind cos your doing your job not using it as a substitute for the road, your just going from gate to gate.

I'm sure our local police have better things to do with their time than bother posties about wearing a cycle helmet, unfortunately the same cannot be said of the managers! I wear the helmet all the time when holding the bike. It's a blinking nuisance and uncomfortable, but that's just the way it is. I remember feeling exactly the same way about wearing a seatbelt back a decade ago, but it's just normal now.

Just wear the Helmet......it's not worth worrying about. Good protection when walking into...hanging baskets...satellite dishes.....low branches. Don't give them an excuse to have a go at you.

Hmmm some interesting responses. From the download i also note they state "when in CONTROL of the cycle" so perhaps they could interprit this as even when pushing your cycle?????

im new, monday was my 3rd day and i went out with the "coach" he wore his helmet when riding 90% of the time and took it off when pushing, so im doing just that

but yes, at the induction we were told you have to wear it "when in control of the bike"
