hi think i posted in wrong forum before. do royal mail employees ever get to keep there bikes on retirement, or do they all go abroad via re cycle? its just you see a lot of mailstars on e bay and im wondering are they legit or are they knicked for want of a better word. cheers

I have known a couple of guys when requested have been allowed to keep their cycles on retirement, but that was a while ago. The only thing i could see RM doing nowadays would be to let them have it unofficially then do them for theft and stop their pension ..... How times have changed.....

Why would anyone want to keep a clapped out poorly maintained bike, most of ours are only fit for scrap !!

Our cycle mechanic says they are approx' £450 each
who in their right mind (and not many are when they reach retirement i guess) would spend that on on one of those when they could have a Marin / Boardman / Specialized etc !!

Back in the day you used to be able to buy your RM bike for a fiver when it was coming to the end of its working life.

Yeh the guy from pashley says the mailstars were only ever built and supplied to RM. They sell the pronto to anyone and have supplied some of those in red.
