Transfer to new DO & Buydown
I've been with Royal Mail for 18 years, currently on a 40hr contract. I've the chance of transfer to another office in the next month but I'll have to drop down to a 30hr contract to move. Was wondering if I'm entitled to a buydown if I go? My rep thinks I should be able to. My DIM says it's not going to save the office any money, even though if I went he would be getting rid of a 40hr contract & replacing me with a 25hr contract Any help guys please?

It depends on the office you are going to not the office you are leaving.
If say there are 2 30hr contracts at your new office then you wont get a buy down.
The reason being why would they pay out for a buy down when they could just recruit.
What some do is take a buy down if it's available at their parent office,bide their time then move on.
Buy downs are at a premium nowadays.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Having read through the "Buy Down (Hours) Policy" section of the MTSF Document from 2010 I can't see anything specifically saying you can't do it. However the bit that says "At Royal Mail's discretion" would be quite a hurdle to get over.
