Transferring to new office

I've been on loan to a local office for the past six weeks or so, and it had been hinted that the transfer could be made permanent, I have at no time said that I want a permanent transfer, I have said I would think about it.

Thursday I was told the transfer was permanent, without me having a formal discussion about it.

Today we were told to lapse one walk, it was heavy day packet and mail wise for a Saturday, I got back at about 2:35pm, the new manager asked me to do my lapsing, I told him I was out of time as I was on 39hr contract, and finish on a Saturday is 2:30pm, he told me lapsing should be done first, I told him that was impracticable as my walk is on a bike. to do the lapsing first I have to go in the opposite direction to my walk, which would mean me cutting off more of my walk than the 45mins lapsing, so less mail would be delivered.
He then told me that as I was transferring to that office my finish time was 3:30 and I would be back to 40 hrs, I also told him I still had a 30 minute break to take,and my parent office was 20 mins away, so by the time I got there it would be well past 3:30.

He re-iterated the 40 hr thing, I told him I would need a new contract because the one I had at home stated I was on a 39hr contract.

I know lapsing should be done first, but if I did it that way my whole walk would be messed up, as the first pouch wouldn't have had enough room for the lapsed mail and the walk mail to get me to the pouch drop.

Add to all this the fact that my wife was going away for 10 days today and had to leave at 4pm, by the time I got back home we barely had time to say cheerio to each other, I explained all this to the DIM as well

oh yes he was, he'd just got back from doing a walk blind, 5 1/2 hrs to do a 3 1/2 hr walk !!, and he took the mail out in his car !!

"I know lapsing should be done first" - yes, but although we've not got lapsing yet I know how inpractical it would be with, even five years into a round, not being able to predict how long it will take each day. One day last week I finished half hour earlier than expected, another at least half an hour later.
I don't mind working the hours I'm paid for but have something of a loyalty to those on my round, a loyalty handsomely rewarded each December.
