Managers finding more work before we can go out.

Post by Eric Cantona »

In my office we are due out at 10 am Monday & Tuesdays and 10 30 the rest of the week, if your bagged up at least 20 minutes before your leaving time they ask you to jump on one of the slow coaches walk to help him/her other than that they give you someone else's killing off and detain you till your proper time, it's getting very petty now. Is this happening at your office?

Well not so much now with the lapsing in but it did happen where people were ready to go before their time and was given missorts or redirs or something to keep them in. Then they would go over and have to book overtime.

I have to be honest and say at first sight I can't see anything wrong in this. We are paid to work so many hours a day and as long as you are not on a break, have completed your own tasks and the request is reasonable I would find it difficult to argue against.

Now if they forced you to throw in during your break, or do every duties kills off before leaving the office when you don't have the time I might have an issue with it.

One thing that does get my goat is when people are on IPS throwing in missorts and have not yet completed their own prep, are being slowed down by others getting 2 or 3 letters from primary, throwing it in, then sit there gabbing with their mates. Sounds like your manager is combating that, and, as long as its fair and reasonable there's not much anyone can do about it. Now if someone is being deliberately slow that would piss me off as well.

In my office we can leave as soon as we are ready. This is the case in every office I have worked in as well, I have never heard of any office around here where posties are held back until a specific time.

This usually occurs when the revisions have taken place so I presume you haven't had a proper revision yet. There has always been some delay since the advent of the missort run, when nobody was allowed to leave until the missort run was back, which was about 9 but is now 8.30/40 ish but everyone is still on IPS at that time. Most aren't ready to leave until 10ish now anyway but if they are ready then they take their portion of lapsing and are allowed to leave when they are ready but it isn't that much earlier.

This gets my goat. Why are they 'slowcoaches'? Why is it a problem to fill your free time?

Just because you are ready to go ; why would you expect others to be as well?

Is this the main reason that RM can and will screw you over ; becuase Posties will screww each other over. This is such a depressing attitude. Why would you want to do this to a fellow worker?

This is a generalisation Cantona ; not a go at you.

And the "fastcoaches" will fall for it hook, line and sinker because there may be 5 minutes to be had at the other end.

Yes.
I know , you know and everybody else knows. But our workmates are selfish and will f*ck everybody. It is so annoying and depressing.

Today (for the second day running) I refused to take my 'extra' (absorbtion) and even had someone comment that I must be too slow. BTW , I do a six hour day and this was a FT person that comes in early saying this to me.

I have been full time and this really annoys me. Am I a second class citizen? I do my job and do it the way the RM want. And yet workmates will make stupid/snide comments.

Rant over . I am knackered , annoyed and p*ssed off.

Time for a glass of wine and then make tea. Although should have had a doze a while ago.

The fact of the matter is that some full timers are taking the Mick slowing down because they want to book a hour overtime, the part timers also are taking the Mick by going slow hoping the manager will say "will you come in a extra hour early this week that way you will be prepped and will be able to finish on time" one part timer rang in at 1pm saying he was going to be out of time. Most posties in my office are often ready to go out at their time but you can see the ones that are daudling, there is no doubt about that and the same ones that are at the coffee machine all day.

The fact of the matter is that some full timers are taking the Mick slowing down because they want to book a hour overtime,>>> Slowing down or working the job? In many ways I agree with you that if you have a track record of always finishing early then you cannot argue if questioned. the part timers also are taking the Mick by going slow hoping the manager will say "will you come in a extra hour early this week that way you will be prepped and will be able to finish on time" >>>Okay, explain going slow as oposed to doing your job? I see people that will post Recordeds , cheat the system , walk over peoples lawns. They are cheating. So, if you do not do that ; are you wrong? one part timer rang in at 1pm saying he was going to be out of time.>>> Surely there is nothing wrong with that. If you are out of time then that is it Most posties in my office are often ready to go out at their time but you can see the ones that are daudling, there is no doubt about that and the same ones that are at the coffee machine all day.
>>> Being at the coffee machine and daudling are surelt two different things.. and maybe too many coffees are a Management issue?
