Last week I explained to my DIM that I had child care issues and needed to finish by a certain time on the saturday, also offered to take the day as unpaid special leave which he declined, so I came in on the saturday ready to blast round, get everything done and get off to look after the kids.

We had a bulk posting that meant I had mail for every house, as did everyone else in the office, because of a delay with the lorry (packets were left for the following week) we were told to stream the mail and treat the bulk posting (2nd class council) like mailsort, we still have the option to leave mailsort on saturdays as not gone through revision yet. I streamed the mail as instructed and left about 30% of calls in the frame for tuesday like everyone else did. I then hammered it round as fast as I could (as per my previous agreement) and when I got back the other DIM explained that because other people were having to come back and sort packets I would be expected to make up the time and would have a meeting to discuss the following week, I didn't have time to argue so I just nodded and off I went.

When I got in on the Tuesday I was summoned for this meeting with the 2 DIM's and the DOM, and my witness of course!, the DIM explained that he'd made it clear that we weren't expected to make time and go early, even though I'd pre arranged this the day before. I argued I'd informed him and given the option to give me the day off unpaid but the bottom line is I'm expected to make up the time, they're saying the earliest others got back about 12 and sorted packets for 20 minutes so I need to make up 1 1/2 hours, I re-iterated I'd blasted round due to childcare and if I hadn't I would have been back the same time as them but they had none of it.

Then I find out that other staff have done OT within their duty time on this day so they've effectively had job and finish as they've completed their own duty and gone straight to their OT, they don't yet know I know this!

So on Tuesday I'm put on our only P&L duty, which I can comfortably do in 3h30m + absorbtion (15mins), at 8.45 (I finish at 2pm) I inform them due to the number of calls and packets I won't be able to do the absorbtion, they say I'm being 'funny' about the 'payback of time' issue above to which I explain, so you don't like it when I get round, get the absorbtion done and make a bit of time and when I decide to go at 'normal' pace you don't like it because I'm not going to get everything done, which 'me ' do you prefer?

They didn't have an answer which made me think............What do they want?

Go at an acceptable pace. Do not jog or run and do not cut any corners.

So you are faster than average? Go slower, BE average.

Job and knock has gone and good riddance.

You finished 1hr 30m early because you blasted it? That is your fault and your manager has you on it. Your only defence is that others got ghost overtime and you are being treated differently.

Blasting around and doing it quicker leads to more delivery points added to rounds. Period.

Unless I've missed something, all you have done is left yourself open to more lapsing on Saturdays and other quiet days... You have sucessfully shown your lino and DOM that your current duty structure (including any lapsing) can be completed 90 minutes early!

This the problem, the DOM decided to allows the mailing to be left, so they expect you to finish on time.

The option as you said was to take unpaid leave, if this ever happens again, don't warn the DOM before hand - Ring up that morning and explain you have childcare problems. Treat it as an emergency! Not exactly what you want, but could save you problems, but they way your DOM acts it could make more problems for you!

Your interview for the job must of been different to mine. Mine went along the lines of:

RM man - I want you to start at 8:50 and finish at 1:50
Me - No problem
RM man - Between those hours I want you to deliver this stuff from your fitting to this list of addresses
Me - No problem
RM man - if you do that for me in the time i have allocated you to do it, i will pay for doing it.
Me - Do I get paid extra for finishing early
RM man - No
Me - Will i be classed as slow or an idiot if I finish what you have asked me to do in the time you have asked me to do it ?
RM man - no. All I ask is that you do the delivery by this specific time.
Me - Will you be annoyed if I am seen to make an hour or so here and there and therefore you are still paying me even though I am doing nothing and could be doing some extra work for you?
RM man - Yes, I will lambast you for being quick and efficient.
Me - So to clarify, you want me to do this job ,in this time scale, for this amount of money
RM man - Yes

I can assure you I don't normally make 90 minutes, I've been in the business for long enough to know you get no gratitude for flying round but when it's pre-arranged?

I read the bit in your post where you call fellow posties that work to time "Slow" and "Idiots" for doing a pre determined job in a pre determind amount of time.

I am with you on the pre arranged stuff with your LM Im with you on the child care bit.... i have 2 girls at 8 and 10.....so no lessons on childcare needed cheers ta! .......... but why the dig FROM YOU against posties doin what posties are paid to do?

Well there is some justice in this job

I have read many of your posts and thought it's only a matter of time...... Well that time has come so stop cribing and telling tales "he does this and he does that" and take your punishment like a man....
You, Me and everyone else on here are payed to work your hours. I'm against dragging the job out but even more against you "runners" killing the job and working at a sub standard rushed level giving scant regard to mail security (leaving mail hanging out of letter boxes etc), customers property (fence/garden jumpers etc).
Learn your lesson, do the job properly and stop berating and dissrespecting your colleagues who are fighting to preserve their future by doing the job correctly
