Dog Attack

Post by Pat Ostman »

Short and sweet.

Does any absence caused by being bitten by a dog on delivery count towards the stage procedure. My manager claims it does.

What a complete farce.

If a Manager is not medically trained, how can you expect them to diagnose/verify that the absence is caused by the bite and not an excuse arising from the fore-mentioned incident?

I think you miss the point.

They are not there to make any medical decision even if they ARE medically trained. All sickness should be counted as genuine. I disagree however that a dog bite is a sickness, it's an AOD.

It seems like you are suggesting that since they are not medically trained they must treat ALL dog bite absence as possibly fraudulent and stick it on your sickness record.

Where I am coming from, you go to work, get bit, then have to struggle in else you will be placed on the attendence procedure for something that was unavoidable whilst at work, performing your duty.

The person in this case is quite shook up, didn't do her massive damage although the wound is very visible and swollen. The problem is, if she goes absent it will trigger Stage 2 for her.

What if you get beaten up on delivery next? Stage 3?

Your manager is an arse Pat,but i'm guessing you know that, total bullshit...unless of course you went into a garden where a dog was running lose and you were aware of the loose dog.

Where and how did the 'attack' happen?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Thought even AOD could count against you in absence thingy. I questioned my manager on that when he tried to hit me with a stage 1 after an AOD, he said it was at his discretion, even the union rep said the same. Didn't get one tho, think it's cos I was raging so much :Very Happy

AOD has to be properly investigated by someone who is trained,if it isn't investigated properly, how can they issue a blameworthy.

Nope and a Judge/Tribunal agrees with me. http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 18&t=15594" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
At the tribunal in Bury St Edmunds, employment judge Patrick Milmo QC found Royal Mail had been wrong to say there were "no mitigating factors" in Mr Linwood's absences and that it was "unfair" to include days off caused by accidents at work.

The attack happened when the owner saw the postie approach their door, the owner opened the door and the dog ran out. The dog immediately attacked the postie.
