Lost My Duty Due to Not Driving - Advice Needed

Hi fellas and Ladies,

Long time lurker on here and now i'm after some much needed advice.

Right here goes...

The situation is that my walk which i have 'signed' for and been doing for 3 years is being 'given' to someone else due to me not doing driving as from Mon - i'm fuming to be honest

I haven't been able to speak to a union rep as yet as they are off due to sickness/holidays but i had a word with a line manager who told me yes that's right because you don't drive and my duty is a driving duty now wtf so i will be pissed about from now on as a spare bod

I said to the line manger, ok if i put my name down for driver training ( which i really really don't want to do) would i keep my walk and he said yeah.

Does this come up anywhere in the agreement????

I feel like i'm being bullied into something i don't want through no fault of my own, well pissed off.



Does anyone have any advice or i'm a stuck with this???

I think you might find he's right. We have walks in our office that are on drivers duty's . if they come of driving they come off of the walk attached to that duty

It's a total piss take tbh. I don't understand why my duty is suddenly now classed as a drivers because feck all has changed really on it apart from it now becoming a van share duty with another bloke who can't drive (doesn't want to actually like myself)

At no time have i been told about it either which makes it even worse in fact the bloke who's on my duty next week said are you on holiday next week (it's the week after)

The bloke who's taking my duty is a recently trained up driver and it's his duty that they have got rid of and i'm senior to him, it just doesn't add up.

Seriously thinking about jumping ship now it's got that bad and this tops it off for me.

I don't understand what you want.
Your duty is now part of a van share.
It has been designated the driving duty.
You do not want to drive...so how could you keep it?
Your priority now is finding a duty you can do until such times as your office has a repick.
Are there any vacant non-driving duties in your office?

Do the changeover so you can drive. It's easy and you will find that after a while being the driver isn't so bad. I know in principle it's shitty but tbh, if you want to keep your walk it's probably your only option.

I really didn't want to do the driving, but when we had a resign it was either that or go reserve. Been a postie almost ten years and I'll be buggered if I'm going back to reserve!

I thought only one person needed to be a driver !

If it is that important to you then tell them you will drive

Change with the times mate, alot of delivery folk in for big changes and wont know what's happening

I'd like to be told in advance to my face by someone in charge what's going on and maybe by a Union Rep aswell as it has a major impact on MY working conditions, farce really to honest.

I guess unless i am 'made' to do driving i'll be treating like cr@p untill a resign happens which should be NOW as 100% of my walk has changes ie i haven't got a bloody walk lol.

One other 'small' point they overlook is that your days off change as well which i shall be having words about because i have booked hols etc around them in the coming weeks.

Union are toothless imo.

I think that is the issue here as the other bloke who he's been paired with is slightly more senior to me hence probably why i'm getting the bullet so to speak.

I get that but i can't get why they have been paired up as the walks are not together really like some are.

He thinks like me! he can drive but doesn't want to drive at work just my luck!!

I guess i'll just have to see how it goes then put in for driver training if i don't like the messin about!

If the reserves in your office are treated like crap perhaps you should have spoken up on their behalf before you were forced to become one.

fishtank has basically answered your questions, however I'd just like to add that the duty nor the recipients on it were/are not yours. The decision to refuse driving duties lies squarely with yourself, you cannot blame the Union, its Rep' or the Manager for the outcome resulting from it.

The rest of the office seem to have it to come in the main so that's wait and see although someone else has lost their duty but he wanted rid anyway so he's happy!
