There are friendly people out there :)

Post by thevardinator »

Was a real hot day today, was on the last loop of my round on a caravan park (pensioners caravan's), with about 10/15 minutes to go. I walked past one of the caravan's, and passed an elderley gentleman his mail, told him I was knackered after a tough day and couldn't wait to sit down and have a drink once I got back home, and carried on walking.

30 seconds later when I've doubled back round his caravan to do the next row, he comes out of the back door with an ice-cold can of Diet Coke for me, and asked if I wanted a beer, but thought better of it! :Very Happy

I thanked him for the drink and carried on happily with my thirst quenched.

You'll need to declare this 'gift' from a customer, could well be a taxable asset! lol

Does he fancy you?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I feel like they should do what happens in Marathons, they all put a table outside with cups of water, so you can throw it over your head as you run by! :nana

All I every go offered was a cuppa tea when it was 40 °C :Very Happy

I did one walk and a Little Old Lady came out and offered me a cup of tea on a freezing wet day. I said thanks a lot but you live at No5 and my delivery actually finishes at No1..just down there! I was actually considering rearranging the duty next time I did it and delivering her mail somewhere in the middle! :hmmmm

I remember around 12/13 years back, blazing hot day, on a round that was up and down hills and steep steps everywhere. Loads on and I was sweating chunks. A retired postie lived on the round and when I got there he was doing a bit of gardening. We had a chat and he offerered me a cold drink so I went round into the back garden and sat on a bench in the shade and he came out with a couple of ice-cold beers.

Best beer ever :Very Happy
I fair swigged it down being so thirsty and he offered me another. I thought about and decided yeah :dance
It's a good job I was on my last couple of bundles and had nothing to go back the office with as by the time I left there was a few empties  What can I say - we got talking :angel

i'm new to this game, only started last week, but one of the roads on my round is a cul de sac of bunglaows, all old people. there's usually several of them out in their gardens chatting with each other and all are very friendly towards me, one offered me a glass of water on Friday when it was blazing hot here - 24c, i declined but the offer was appreciated. It's quite enlightening how many friendly people there are out there when you are dressed as a postie, take your Hi-vis off and no-one gives you eye contact!
I feel like im in a job where Im appreciated by the majority of the public, there cant be many jobs that give you that feeling.
