I need to finish on time to get to school for my little girl (off duty 2:50, pick little un up at 3, but its only 2mins from work)

So pick the duty you want and if the workload is going to take you over your time cut off................I don't see the problem?

In our office, those that picked the hct duties wish they had not. Personal opinion. It does really make any difference as it is all now crap.

1 thing you need to know about is batch times....Let me illustrate in our office every walk gets 1-2 sequenced boxes on wave 1 (5:00) on wave 2 (7:20) 10 out of the 30 deliveries get the rest of their seq mail (sometimes 1 bundle sometimes 1 box) These are the firms, rurals and P&L jobs. Then the remaining 20 deliveries get their final seq at 09:15 even on a Saturday. So it is very important to see a batch plan for your office. Another consideration is attendance patterns in our office the P&Ls and the rurals are on 9 day ftnt longer days but every 4 weeks off Fri,Sat,Sun,Mon. HCT jobs bog standard 1 in 4 sat off.

1 in 4 sats is part of the agreement if you dont get it then dont play ball. In my area some offices were 'caught' picking up their own seq mail and severely told off as once the whole mc goes to end state there will be 600s running around the town empty. By collecting it yourselves you are doing a distribution driver out of a job. One for all and all that.

Jimmy, you know the answer already, it is definitely an HCT. You are within 1 mile of your office, in winter you simply revert to bag on shoulder but obviously of a lower weight. You should be able to get a full delivery in your HCT on any but the heaviest of days. The newer HCTs are to be avoided try to get one of the older ones without the swivel wheels. None of our HCT guys would take on a P&L duty driver or not. If your office is still where it used to be you shouldn't be too badly off, although I haven't worked there in 25 years so I don't know how much new build there's been.

If you chose P&L try and find out who you will be paired with first. If like me your paired with someone who insists on coming in up to an hour early, its a bloody nightmare. Constantly feel rushed and you end up at each others throats about how long everything takes etc

Sounds like an ideal partner to me, if they're so desperate then they can prep your frame too after all, you are both in it together (especially if they want to do more work than you).
