Mailsort

Came into work today (Saturday) to be told that the Mailsort was to be taken out NOTHING was to be left. This is the new RM policy which has been agreed with the Union.

Anyone been told this? are you already taking MS on a Saturday?

BT 2010 states we are moving to a 6 day workplan. Have you had revision/sequencing/later starts? If you answer yes to any of these in theory you are now in a 6 day workplan. Do you do D2D on a Saturday? Arguably if there is time in your day take the M3 and leave your lapse only you know if there is enough time in your duty to do what RM want if there is not speak to your line manager and ask him what he would like you to leave? The last road on your del? or the single call M3 items or your lapsing. Let him squirm I think you know what he will ask you to do......

Since the revision we've been taking it, as Saturday is now classed as a normal working day.

But if you are leaving it because you still want to make an hour on a Saturday because that is your right....then forget it and welcome to the real RM world. 8 hours pay for 8 hours work.

We had a revision? a few months ago where they took out 4 walks and juggled the hours around. Despite working at RM for years I've never understood what lapsing is so can't comment on that.

Today was quite light and with the MS I still finished at 11:10. Thats not really what concerns me its that Saturday is repeatedly either the most heavy OR the second most heavy day of the week. Once we come off Summer Savings and the workload goes back up to a more normal level then we're going to be fooked.

I'm happy to work my time but I can see this being abused especially with the new DOM.

They have to manage the extra workload.
You just have to turn up,get on with it and go home.
Once you get over the idea of finishing early it's actually good fun watching them panic.

As I said today was very light for MS other weeks its been bloody heavy. When looking at MS you have to factor in the IPS time, the throwing off time the extra bulk and bag drops needed so time wise it can add much more time than you'd expect.
Then there the question of giving me MORE work on a Saturday when we finish early at 12:30pm and then having LESS work to deliver on Monday which are usually a light day anyway and was bulked out by Saturdays MS

though lately Ive been left alone
they know I will not be working over and get no arguments from me
they can lump me on any duty/lapsing
Im quick enough on delivery that my time isnt an issue but I'll send uit all back as required

It is a terrible way to work...but it is the direction the business is going and stopping it is impossible.
Call it modernisation.privatisation,whatever...the future is here.
It's what happens when you combine useless,ineffective management with a desperation to save money.
Royal Mail should have started it's modernisation programme by modernising it's management...and by modernising i mean getting rid of 80% of them.
Even Hooper admitted they couldn't manage a KitKat wrapper...but they let them loose with £2/billion in cash and some "rough" idea on how to spend it.
It would make a good movie but the plot is just too far-fetched for anyone to buy into it.

We've had to take our mailsort since revision,but even before revision we seemed to have less of it to leave come saturday and loads of DSA to deliver instead.

The amount of mailsort i got today was about 15 letters and 7 flats of which 3 were quite bulky.

That represents a pretty typical Saturday. No big issue if we were made to take it out.

It is a terrible way to work...but it is the direction the business is going and stopping it is impossible.
