Wet weather gear.

The past two days I have been soaked through to my skin. Why can't RM provide proper wet weather gear i.e Goretex type coats, over trousers, shoes and mail bags. I use a yellow plastic bag inside my mail bag but the mail still gets wet. We don't need a new style uniform, just something that keeps us dry! Also, I have seen the new so called 'storm proof' coat which barely covers your bum. It may be OK for those driving vans but I'm not looking forward to wearing it in the depths of winter on my bike. I shall be keeping my old thermal jacket and woollen jumper to keep out the chills.

The "shower proof" jacket wont even keep out a fine mist, he storm coat last for about five minutes in a heavy shower, cat trainers are not watertight, nor are the magnums (they used to be). The over trousers seem to be "one size fits all" and being only 5'7" I find they keep my shoes drier than they do my legs. I'm just waiting to see just how warm the fleece isn't when it gets cold.

So true the uniform is rubbish quality not fit for purpose,all week soaked everyday don't the buyers at RM test anything,shoes let in water shower proof jacket isn't, new trousers if you have chunky legs they are too tight around the bollocks pockets not deep enough everything keeps falling out,new shirts looks like a ladies blouse.

My wife ( amateur dressmaker) reckons that the unisex style shirt is more suited to women than men, and has insisted I order the polo shirts from now on, she also reckons the trousers are unisex as well, and all they do is insert different size labels in them, her comment was "how do you fit the wedding tackle in there", she says all clothes made abroad is like it because they fail to take account of the western mans larger hip area Apparently in her words "even small nails need a decent hammer"

I'm in total agreement over the general unfit for purspose nature of the present uniform. Over the years with each "improvement" the uselessness of the uniform has increased.
I know that being a cynic is now a requirement for being an RM footsoldier, but does anyone else reckon that if someone did some digging they would find that someone at the top of RM has links to whoever is currently supplying the uniform?

I can't believe they was actually tested by real postman.Maybe they had to say the uniform was good so they could get their picture's in the courier.

Well i froze my arse off in mine last winter. Admittedly we were out in temps around -10C and once as low as -18C, but there it no way our uniform is suitable for sub-zero weather conditions.

I remember a couple of years back watching one of these house buying programmes one day, it featured a young lady, early 20's maybe, straight out of Uni and purchasing a London apartment worth well over £200k if my memory serves me correctly.

Whilst watching it I was pondering what a hell of a well paid job she must have to be able to afford it when she anounced that she "works for Royal Mail in procurement, buying everything from aeroplanes to uniforms"... nuff said.

I remember a couple of years back watching one of these house buying programmes one day, it featured a young lady, early 20's maybe, straight out of Uni and purchasing a London apartment worth well over £200k if my memory serves me correctly.

Whilst watching it I was pondering what a hell of a well paid job she must have to be able to afford it when she anounced that she "works for Royal Mail in procurement, buying everything from aeroplanes to uniforms"... nuff said.

That was 'Homes under the Hammer' they repeated that episode the other day and it still shocked me that someone in procurement could afford to buy a property in the centre of London and completely refurb it, they must be on mega bucks for making us look like tramps

tbh if you are out in steady rain for 3 hours you aint gonna keep completely dry whatever your wearing. occupational hazard im afraid. The uniform aint too bad imo.

I think the uniform is complete rubbish,the shorts are way to long in the leg and the pocket is of no use to man nor beast,the shirts are a crap fit way to short so it shows your back and way to baggy no real style,the red t-shirts we have had for years way to hot to wear when your out on delivery in high temperatures,the trousers you have to wear bigger so the don't restrict your legs when cycling and walking,lets face it we do alot of walking in delivery's!the shower proof jacket well mine leaks even in a light shower has done since new,crap fit have a medium size swamps me but the smaller one was to tight in the shoulders and pulled on the arms,the storm jacket is to short leaks like a sieve always has since new,cat boots not the best but have found them easier to wear than the Magnums,the cat trainers are not waterproof and are really wide so when ordering you have to keep in mind that they are not good if you have narrow feet,have not tried the new fleece as it made me itch when i tried it on have not used it since i wear my blue one,the legging way to long leaks in wet weather so no point in wearing them,all in all i think they have wasted their money again.

She may have inherited (or won) a lot of money and had a big deposit to put down.
Anyway it was just on the tele. It doesn't mean any of it was true.
