Someone in my office had this happen to them, the manager phoned in advance to say they were coming. So yes it can happen. I would tell the union tough, so that you have a union representative present for any of these visits.

since revision, one of my colleagues was off with work-related stress, he got a home visit from the area manager! It's amzing how caring these people are

Erm because i dont want loose my job for not being in at the right time thats probably a big factor!

Im not at home all day
In fact I was out for about 5 hours today (doctors,specialist) but I dont really give a f**k

Being sick doesn't mean you have to be in the house all day every day. There are illnesses that wouldn't keep you in. If your manager wants to visit you at home he should call you first. If he doesn't call first, you tell him you were too ill to answer the door.

You could just speak to him at the door whilst sitting in a chair with your coat on. I wouldnt let them inside your house though. You may not be in at the time though as you went for a short walk as part of your efforts to recover from your illness.
