No house number

Why o why o why will people put their house number all over their wheelie bin in graphics 18" high on 2 or 3 sides of the bin, even decorate their bin in some cases, and the bin doesn't even belong to them...it belongs to the council.

Yet they can't spend 39p at B&Q and get numbers on their front door OR even if money is too tight to spend 39p even use a marker pen !!!!!!

AND then they have the brass neck to complain when they get next doors mail.

It always seems to be the houses in a row of 5 or 6 that don't have numbers, that complain the loudest...... is it me ????? the very fact that I have asked "is it me" , leads me to fear, that it just might be !

Why do the occupiers of these addresses think they are so special that they should not label their address? Really ought to be addressed by the USO, no address label, no delivery...

also the houses with names instead of numbers, a walk i covered recently had mail adressed to the white house on so n so street,when i got there, there were 5 white houses in a row with no names on

I look for a number for EVERY house when I'm delivering. I just like the secure feeling that I'm at the right house. When there is no number I look at the next doors and work out what number I'm at. And when there is someone standing at their gate with their hand out, I always look at the door for a number. When its not there I take great delight in saying "well, that one is number 5 so this one must be number 7, is that right?".

I deliver to an estate of 60 houses, all numbered 1 - 60, most have numbers on doors. One homeowner however, has decided he is too good to have a number, and has given the house a name. He hasn't even got the house name up on his house! I often get asked where it is by angry couriers.

I even explained to him once, that you can call your house anything you want, however the *Postal Address* must be used for post, in his case 12 The estate, and he's lucky to get any post at all. A year later still no change.

My house doesn't have a number on the door any more. Used to but it got broken when I was re-painting the door (I dropped it as I was taking it off, and to my surprise ... ).

if and when i get pulled by a householder with no number on their house about incorrect mail going in i just politely point out to them that if they have no number on their house they can't really complain, even if it wasn't me that put it in. if they get stroppy i just say "well what would you say if we didn't deliver ANYTHING to your house because there is no number on it?"

Yeah this grabs my goat. I spoke to one resident saying, "does yours have a number?" (it didn't I knew) "Oh no they said but you can always tell the number if you look next door, they're number 8 you see". My reply was unspoken.

I did get proactive more recently when an unnumbered house had a note stuck on the door saying 'new occupants - the Smiths' - I scribbled on Number 77, still to see if they bite and do the decent thing.

I had street on my old round it went 1,3,3a,5a,5 both a's were built afterwards i soon figured it out but 5a would get 5's post regular when i was off,Came back after leave once and she had put note in window saying 5a she had a little moan about it i said its expected since you have no number she sorta said whatever and closed door on me

hahaha so glad I am not the only one this really winds up.

Even worse is when you are looking next door to try and find some point of reference and they don't appear to have a number either so you trot of a few houses trying to pick up the scent.
