Door to Door Update - a few facts !
Heres few facts on door to door !!
In 2009/10 there was 2.8 bilion items a year , quiet in the summer , busy in the autumn and with no deliveries over christmas.
In 2010/2011 , the cap released to 4 items in June but with no prior planning , cap release to 5 in August , Christmas Open but most campaigns plans already made in the market. Cap release to 6 in January 2011. Traffic increased to 3.2 billion items.
Plan for 2011 /2012 improved notice christmas campaigns hoping for an increase of 3.7 billion items.
Door to door is still bucking the marketing trend. Royal Mail have won some growth in the retail sectonr and with supermarkets.
However quailty of service is impacting on growth.
The current traffic door to door situration is that Royal Mail are still selling 4 items to 3 million households , 5 items to 1.5 million households and 6 to 0.6 million households.
So the increase in the cap of 3 items per week has meant on average 5 million addresses per week get more than 3 items and the cap release is accounting for approxmately 8 million items a week at present.
Quality of service is estimated to be running at 90% . The quaility of service results have meant that Royal Mail have lost customers and some contracts have been delayed with major supermarkers due to poor intial trial results.
Customer churn is very high !! 77% of customers gained by Royal Mail in July 2010 have not booked again and 39% of Royal Mail`s existing customers have not re-booked in the last 12 months.

Of course with the recession I would imagine advertising is not a priority, they are probably trying to consolidate what they have and know quite well there's not a lot of retail money about.

So will this growth in business mean a possible renegotiation on the level of the delivery supplement,a capturing of increased revenue for members...and how is the "it'll all come in a sleeve" trial working out?

If we're currently running at a rate of 8 million a week then thats 4.2 billion for a year.
That represents an increase of 50% on the 2.8 billion figure for 2009/10.
Whilst quality of service levels at 90% fall short of what we should be achieving, it's probably a great deal higher than any of our competitors achieve.
The churn rate is always very high for direct marketing and is more likely to be affected by company strategy, budgets and our pricing than QOS issues.
Overall RM's doing pretty well out of this.

How on earth is this the case in our office we must be delivering at least 99%! Does this low figure relate to the failure of the mail centres to supply us with all the revelant contracts?

Some areas have always had dreadful D2D quality.Senior Service wrote: How on earth is this the case in our office we must be delivering at least 99%! Does this low figure relate to the failure of the mail centres to supply us with all the revelant contracts?
Since the same managers and staff are in place i wouldn't imagine that's changed much just because it's gone into workload.

Had 3 items on our sheets this week, but only 2 turned up. The problem is in delivery offices where they dont seem to give a toss whether we get them or not.

You could not make it up , I gave you access to what Royal Mail presented the CWU on Door to Door without an opinion and yet I am still a target for abuse.
for the record fish tank the supplement has already gone up and will go up again in line with future pay rises. I think there is an arguement if quality improves and door to door grows that the supplement should be increased.
However remember Royal Mail delivers to over 28 million addresses in the UK and on average only 0.6 million get 6 items per week , 1.5 million addresses get 5 items and 3 million addresses get 4 items per week.
So at the moment most delivery postman are not delivering with more than 3 items of door to door per week. The good news is that Door to Door is still growing however companies are still nervous about investing more in advertising at this moment. Of course Door to Door quality is a concern , this is down to management who still fail to understand that door to door has to be treated in exactly the same way as first class mail etc.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
