Longs & Shorts
When can these be implemented? Should they have been implemented when the original 2007 Modernisation Agreement was signed. Can they be used to counteract cut offs? Can they be implemented without membership input?

In our office we do summer savings, absorbtion, longs and shorts and swings and roundabouts. Our rep quit 2 weeks ago as he had recieved little support from cwu. I currently absorb from 3 different town walks along with driving my van for almost 40 miles around rural Britain.

If the BT Agreement is seen as an 'add-on' to the Pay and Mod Agreement and not necessarily separate in its own right, RM may well argue the case for long and shorts at your DO. However, with BT allowing for a greater number of Saturdays off, long and shorts may be difficult to operate. As with so much that is 'agreed' between CWU and RM there seems an awful lot of room for manouvre and interpretation on both sides!

The other argument is, can they by law, ask you to extend byond your normal contracted hours on any day, and if so where is the limit, as in theory they could ask you to work 24 hours on any given day.
