Risk your life working for the Royal Mail and get sacked????

I just read this, are the Royal Mail Managers taking the piss ?

How can you sack someone who risked their life to stop a Royal Mail van from being stolen !!

Seriously these managers want to get in the real world and out of their bubble office fantasy lands, which they obviously live in !!

It is to me mate, and I don't care if she left the keys in, she risked her life to stop that van from being stolen, not only that she did stop it from being stolen, and thats the reply she got. The Managers should be ashamed, its medal she wants not an inquiry !!

What ever her story, whether it were true or not, the sad fact is that she left the keys in the ignition and did not follow the guidelines. This will be frowned upon and royal mail will probably sack her, even though she tried to retrieve the vehicle back. Royal mail are wanting to get rid of people especially the workforce that have been in the business for 10+ years that way they don't have to fork out redundacy packages.

Just do the job properly, because royal mail don't give a stuff any more.

It's not surprising that the Mail would use a misleading headline like the one I've quoted above. She doesn't face the sack for jumping on the van to stop the thief getting away, she faces the sack for leaving it in a position where it could be stolen in the first place. Why do people take the chance of leaving the keys in the van and the engine running even when you are only going to leave it for a few seconds. For the second it takes to turn the engine off and take the keys with you you why don't people do it.

its a security issue, people are warned, day in day out, if a bag of mail is stolen and you did not take the correct procedure you will be sacked.
If people slowed down and followed the rules to the book, walks would have less calls, even with cuts postmen still take shortcuts it creates a false economy, managers love it so they can cut more hours.
Maybe if she appeals she may be ok.
