If special deliveries are so important why dont they ...

MY friend who has been a postie for years said that if you lose a special delivery your fired no matter what the reason.

So I am wondering if special deliveries are so important then why don't the Royal Mail insist that the are delivered by van and not by a postie on a walking route ?

I mean the chances of losing a special delivery must be a lot smaller for someone delivering in a van than for someone walking about, going in and out of their post bag all the time.

if you lose a reg it would not be a sackable offence in a normal case, years ago you would get a
2 or 5 year serious on your record. in most cases the reg is found or been delivered by mistake.
but as the special delivery items are getting less it wont belong for this service is to finish.
a bit like the old data-post mail.
tracked mail will be the new service and all the items will then go onto the vans as the drivers
are the only staff with the scanning guns.but it will help the drivers in any future revisions though.
you only have to look at the amount of tracked and recordeds that enter your offices nowdays to see
what will happen to the special delivery items.

Just from a MC point of view, Tracked has really increased in volume over the last year or so, DMC had about 65 cages one night during the last xmas pressure (some may have been delayed somewhere due to that snow). I wouldn't be surprised to see compensation (same bands, etc as specials) available as an extra for Tracked then specials will probably be done away with. With both the LDTs used for specials and the PDAs used for Tracked the batteries are crap (knackered through old age in the LDTs, not fit for purpose in the PDAs).

you are obliviously in a pre revision stage
there is no such thing as 'driver duties' post P&L
