overtime whilst on annual leave

Is it acceptable for posties to come in whilst they are on their holidays, to perform spare duties on overtime? I am asking as at our office two in particular have been coming in and claiming overtime....one of them is our assistant union rep...and he is using his car to do so!!!! Always thought that this practice was frowned upon. Any info

It's not frowned upon.... It cannot be done. It's called 'ghosting'. Basically; you are paid for hols and then 'paid' again for OT. Can't be done. And I know people that have found out to their cost.

Our office the manager rings me up and asks you fancy oT on my week off and says i will only pay you 6 hours tho! It will all be prepped for you , when you turn up nothing has been done and he says you will be ok!
Ive never been caught like that again and now just say no thanks!

Happened all the time in my old office, same one doing it all the time, union reps aware of it, area reps aware of it. But as it was one of the lads (drinking buddies) it was allowed surprisingly enough

There are people in my office who have worked their holidays on numerous occasions and done the whole job i.e IPS, prep and delivery and got OT.
It's also been known for one particular guy to be phoned up while on leave and have a few pouches dropped off at his house for him to deliver.

Just the same as working your day off...i don't like it...but it is allowed.

There's no issue with working your rostered week off. That's not leave. The "other leave" would be something like special leave where you are given leave of your duty.

How many more times can I fit "leave" into 1 post?

what would happen if these postman have an accident while on duty.also how would they stand in an insurance claim.
as for your o/c he would either be moved to another office or instant dismissal for fraud.

I've asked to come in while on leave before and been told i could only have time in lieu.

Awhile back some of our guys got paid ot for lieu days they were owed union guy kicked off they had to pay money back so beware.
