Dear Colleague,

Student Admissions for CWU Representatives attending CWU courses

As a result of some system upgrades at our National Residential Education & Training Centre, Alvescot Lodge, the increase in the number of course applications from Branches, as well as to ensure a consistent approach across both constituencies; the way in which applications to attend CWU courses are processed has now been reviewed and revised.

The following represents the updated system and it is envisaged that this will provide for a clearer system from start to finish, reduce to a minimum any duplication of effort, and allow the student to have early knowledge of course acceptance, which in turn will provide better notice to their employer to ensure release.

The only change to Postal Branches is that there will no longer be the need for Branch Secretaries to process acceptance/rejection notices to the individual student (please see below).:

FOR RESIDENTIAL COURSES

Course application form to be submitted by Branch Secretary (Branch Secretary signature required)
When the closing date is reached, CWU Course Administrator will write to all successful applicants, to their home addresses
An email will be sent to all Branch Secretaries who have submitted an application form, informing them of their members acceptance/refusal for the course
Individual and Branch Secretary will liaise to process travel and subsistence claims in line with appropriate branch policy and CWU rule
Acceptance form to be returned to CWU Course Administrator at Alvescot Lodge once unpaid/paid release has been authorised

FOR REGIONAL COURSES

Course application form to be submitted by Branch Secretary (Branch Secretary signature required)
CWU Course Administrator will write to all successful applicants, to their home addresses as soon as application forms are received
An email will be sent to all Branch Secretaries who have submitted an application form, informing them of their members acceptance/refusal for the course
Individual and Branch Secretary will liaise to process travel and subsistence claims in line with appropriate branch policy and CWU rule
Acceptance form to be returned to CWU Course Administrator at Alvescot Lodge once unpaid/paid release has been authorised

The department takes the view that this revision will speed up the process of setting up a course and therefore help us to avoid late cancellations of courses and your cooperation in this matter is much appreciated. Pleased that confirmation of place on course will go direct to home address. At the moment its sent to branch office who then forward to rep. If you not in the same building as branch office then it means a day or two later at the moment for the confirmation to reach the rep.
