Low Letter Boxes

Is there any guidelines into letter boxes about two inches off the ground? A Mate of mine at a nearbye office tells me some new houses has gone on to his walk and the letter boxes are a couple off inches of the ground, there is 40 houses and the bag just drops every time he delivers. As he is not on the internet I said I would ask on here, his line manager ignored him when he asked...

They tell us to remove the pouch and then deliver the letters etc to the low letter box.

This takes time

If he goes over his time and he does not want the overtime cut off.

I thought there was some EU law stating letterboxes on new builds had to be a certain height(1metre?).......maybe I was dreaming it :crazy:

No you weren't my link mentions it. Basically in the UK its a voluntary directive, in Eire its part of the Buildings laws.

Not dreaming it but since when did anyone in government care about the citizens of the UK.

It's an EU law they' chose' not to enforce.

Has anyone ever heard a reason for putting letterboxes low on the door? The sheer stupidity of this makes me dizzy. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would put a letterbox low down. Is the keyhole at the very top? Do they have to stand on tip toes to unlock it? Do they have to reach under the side sill of their car to open it, or reach across to the middle of the roof to open the filler cap?

The mind boggles.

I asked a customer why, when they replaced their door, they put the new letterbox at the bottom. They said there was nowhere in the middle of the door to put. So you chose the wrong door I said. Didn't you consider the letterbox when you were looking at doors? Will you be getting a box on the wall I said, they just laughed :arrrghhh

I'd like to ask the council who is responsible for putting the letterboxes on every one of the 100 doors of the council estate on the bottom.

And kill them. :evil/mad

You have to remove the pouch from your back to deliver.
We had a manual handling session on this years ago.
I believe a postie injured himself delivering to a low letter box and hadn't been properly trained in the art.
Cue an enormous compensation payment from RM.........

If you got a walk with lot of low letter box a trolley is a must as you can't keep bending down with bag on back as it will end up injury.
