Working in the registered locker

Do any of you PHG's working in the locker end up doing more than your 318.I seem to have to do all sorts like take out the lapsed bits that don't get taken for one reason or another.Sort out D2D returns and sort of have to help run the callers office when one of the other indoor staff has a day off as they wont replace him but they have a replacement when its my day off,throw up walks every now and again.Dont get me wrong I try to manage my workload as best I can in the time allocated but I just seem to think that there is an unfair allocation of work load being put on me.

maybe you are too efficient, just slow your pace down, royal mail managers like people to rush around so they can give them more work to do.

This happens to our PHG because it is an easy option for our DOM rather than challenge those OPG's whom arrive back at the office early.The PHG has no option but to work his eight hours a day.

It depends which half of the locker duty you do.

I work 5 until 10 and it takes the majority of that time to receive in, distribute to the walks and then allocate them, receive in the tracked items, which tomorrow will be about 250 tracked and a similar amount of specials. All of which must be completed for 0800 because some of the bulks have pre 9 deliveries. In addition there are the 9 a.m. specials and the missorts which must be ready by 0720. Post 0800 the remaining walks would be allocated together with my 20 minutes (I know it should be 30 minutes) break. At 0900 I start to issue the specials, vehicles and PDAs as required, though they are not allowed to leave until later, it takes a fair while to get through them. Mostly all the work has been issued by 10 but not always - so I don't have time to do anything but what I am supposed to do - especially as the work from the MC arrives when it feels like it - sometimes leaving not a lot of time to get it ready.

So I would imagine on an 8 hour duty there would be time to do something else.

I understand what your saying custard but some walks just do the 318 and lapse and finish early, where as I do my 318 in the locker and end up picking up the rest of whats left,surely thats not fair is it

I understand what your saying custard but some walks just do the 318 and lapse and finish early, where as I do my 318 in the locker and end up picking up the rest of whats left,surely thats not fair is it

Of course it is! Everyone should be working to capacity as per the agreement, the fact that some are not is a managerial issue - if you have time to fill they'll fill it - what is unfortunate for you is that you are in view. I can always find something to do, cards, PDA issues, customs, repairs, taking the pi*s, now there is always time for that
