NEW Grantham telegram boys Derek Scothern and Brian Cross are pictured here being shown the ropes by Edwin Neale.

The photograph of the teenage trio was sent in by former postman Mike Matsell, of Recliffe Road, Grantham, pictured on his round in 1951.

He said: “Derek did not stay in the job but Brian spent his whole working life at Grantham Post Office.

“In the early days Brian cycled from Carlton Scroop every day - wind, rain or snow - to go to work in Grantham. He finished is Post Office career as a senior supervisor having worked his way up.”

The photograph was taken in the early ‘50s in the yard behind the Post Office, with the lads standing in front of a green Albion lorry used by telephone engineers.
